I need some advice. This weekend at a trailer stop, I went to start my sled and only got a click. Engine wouldnt turn over. It seemed like the starter so I got a wrench from my pack and tapped on it a couple times. It started right up. No issues for the next 4 or 5 starts, then the same thing happened. No go until I tapped on it with a long screw driver. Is my starter shot? Are they rebuildable? How hard are they to remove and replace?
Thanks

They are expensive not sure exactly. There are some other threads on here about starters with prices. My starter was covered by my dealer i did not ask what it would have cost.

Is replacing the starter pretty straight forward? Or is this a complex job?

Most likely the brushes are hanging up.
Another thing to check is the cable connection to the starter. If it has come loose or is corroded it would require a little jolt from the wrench to make contact.
I've got some good used starters for $100
Belive I have one with 1800 miles on it.
