Hey guys, I did what stingray and Ulmer told me to this morning. Set my secondary to 6/2 and put a new stock belt on and went to test. I still hit the limiter on the bottom end but it really seems strong in the mid range and top end now. Saw 103mph on speedo, gps verified 101 and it wasn't done when I let off, it was still pulling 9050 rpm up top. My rpm after traction was gained was 8700-8900 most of the way which is really good . My previous best was 95 and it took a while after 80 but not anymore it walked right up there. Question is how do I get it off the Rev limiter. Think I need a kit....

No , forgot the damn thing at home. The new belt is a little tight I am getting a squeal now at idle. Going to pull out some shims this afternoon. Could the belt being too tight cause it to hit the limiter on the bottom?

Deerhuntr,

When you moved your secondary spring is everything else stock on your sled? clutches etc. I too hit the rev limiter on the bottom all the time. i run stcok belts and have 3250 miles on my sled. My best ever top speed is 97 and my skid is stock too. no extra wheels added and stock slides

Would like to no more about this seems very similar to what I'm dealing with my setup my sled is stock cept track

8DN Belt dropped my rpm 200 to 300. Tim how much did it drop yours?

8JP belt is known to slip, if you had any belt dust yours does too. Slippage cause rpm "hunting" where your rpm varies without any rhyme or rreason. 8DN same rpm all the time.

Just got off the phone with Ulmer again, he said my secondary was adjusted wrong from the factory it should have never been in 6/3. He told me to try 3/3! Sled is stock.

Mine was in 6/3 and I never touched it before. Might explain the inconsistencies.

I agree with you, the 8JP is known to slip. That is why I tried a brand new belt before switching to the 8DN. The new belt made it faster, but in time I think the 8JP will just make life miserable.

I might try the Gates belt and if possible, a little shorter belt if I can find one.

I would do a clutch kit from Ulmer and a gates belt ( part # 40g4313 ) also I have a 1mm washer and a .5mm washer on the secondary

I would also put the secondary in the stock setting (6-1)

Going to try 6/1 next time I am out. He said where it was set was way too stiff. 6/2 gained me 8 Mph on top end and it pulls harder everywhere except when it's on the limiter on bottom. Excited to back it off and try again.

When it was first on I was hitting the limiter out of the hole due to track spin, but then quickly it stopped and I was at around 8800-8950. Then they changed my helix now never hits the limiter, but is at 8700-8800 so I'll wait until Allen gets his set up done and get that. I'm fine where it's at now.

By too tight do you mean that it's sitting very high in the secondary? If that is the case then absolutely yes that will cause it to rev limit on the take off or lower rpm. Picture it as driving a standard vehicle..start out in first gear and it's just right, enough power to quickly accelerate the gearing..if your belt is low in the secondary it'd be like trying to start out in second gear and you don't have enough power to turn the gear ratio very quickly..most cases when this happens is when you'll get a lot of belt slippage. If it's too high in the secondary then the engine is making too much power for the gear ratio causing you to hit the rev limiter because the shifting point of the clutches is always a tad too high. I have my belt right flush with the top of my secondary. Some guys like them a little above but with it being right flush it makes the engine grunt a little more on the initial take off which in turn helps the sled hook up really good because it loads the engine harder and doesn't give it full power right away causing it to spin out and loose traction. As for the 8dn belt, I haven't used one and I won't be because I don't have enough adjustment in my clutches to make it work. I do know however that until the stock 8jp belt gets warmed up and nice and grippy it will slip! Whenever you do clutch testing or adjusting make sure you are on the sled and riding it for several minutes before you really do any testing. That way you know the belt is up to operating temp and you can adjust properly to how the sled and belt is going to perform when you're out there actually riding it.
