I have complete stock 19 xtx. Belt dust gallore. I have learned if I dont drive much harder than 60 mph on hard pack I wont blow a belt. Should have bought a Bravo. So I took the shim out from behind the secondary to see what happens. Belt squealing at idle was what I got. Put it back in. This suggests to me my offset went the wrong way without the washer? This seems odd many others have to shave their secondary? Sure sucks the local Yamaha dealer closed the doors.

I have found the same thing with mine I took out the shim behind my secondary and started to get some squeal at idle too. may need to set deflection but when I got it all back together it is very close to the 57.5 mm we are supposed to have. I would leave it out and check offset. if it is close to the numbers on offset just set deflection to remove belt squeal and see if you get more belt life.

I'll guarantee it has too much offset from the factory. Did you measure it at all?

Take shims back out from behind the driven and set your deflection properly for the new offset. For as much driven shim as you take out, you have take out same amount and thickness deflection shim as well to keep deflection as is.

I havent measured anything, just thought I would try it. I havent bought the tool yet. So I should remove the shim from behind the secondary (there is only 1) and remove an equal thickness from behind the bolt on the secondary?

Yes, remove 1mm washer from clutch bolt. This will essentially make bolt longer and allow it to push against inner sheave of secondary, thus making space between two sheaves wider and allow belt to sink down a bit and will get rid of belt squeak.
