I need to replace the battery in my Apex - I'm wondering if anyone has put a better battery in to replace the stock one? It would be nice to have a few more cold cranking amps. I'm not concerned too much about extra weight.

Your Stock battery YTx14-BS has 200 Cold cranking amps If you use a YTX14H-BS your Cold cranking amps will go up 60 to 260 amps. That my make a difference for you.

Odessey makes some special purpose batteries for cold weather usage, they have replacement batteries for the Yamaha's.

I put a wal-mart in my 03 and had less trouble than guys with brand new Yausa's out west. They all froze solid and mine cranked right up. 3 yrs old last season with no tender attached.

check your starter relay for corrosion unless you know the battery is smoked, mine was slower cranking and it was high resistence through the relay
My battery is completely gone now, but it is the stock Yuasa and it was a good battery. I figure if I'm going to replace it I'd check around and see if I can get something a little bigger.
I found a Yuasa replacement for the FX Nytro that has 310 CCAs and should still fit under the battery cover with a little modification to the foam. The only problem is the terminals are switched so the positive is on the clutch side, I'd need a longer red cable.

Go with a odyssey PC680 if it will fit.

This would help with cold weather starting also correct?? At -40 none of our Yamaha's would start. They all cranked over fine but just not fast enough. How much is the larger CCA battery?

Yes it would but so would the Sled Start might as well go with both and have no worries.
I found the 310 CCA Yuasa for sale on ebay for $65 and free shipping. It's manufactured by Yuasa, same construction (sealed AGM) and specs, only under the Interstate name. I might go that route.
The Odyssey PC680 has less CCA's than the bigger Yuasa, and it costs $130. Supposedly they last a long time, but are they that much better? I think that's a bit of a ripoff - I can buy 2 others for the price of 1 Odyssey.
