Stronger belt

I was at my Cat dealer yesterday so I questioned them on this. The 17 had a technical issue with the bearing on the shaft, so 18's and up were improved. Belt's are said to be dimensionally the same and interchange but supposedly the 18 and up belt was improved slightly.

All 2017 clutches were replaced under warranty (yes, some issue with roller bearing).
XS827 has dimensions of 1.50" x 45-1/16". XS829 is 1.50" x 44-15/16". Both have same rubber compound. XS827 is specified for 2017 only. XS829 is for 2018 & newer.
2017 clutches were Team "Boss" (100% Team engineered and manufactured). 2018 & newer are Team (no "Boss" designation) and are a blended Arctic Cat & Team design.
Since XS827 is 1/8" longer, one might presume the 2017 clutches have wider shift range and therefore a slightly longer belt was required? Don't know for sure.[/QUOTE]

Also makes me wonder why after the updates wouldn't they all use the same belt.

Center-to-center distance has to be same so maybe the center bearing on the 2017 was bigger than 2018 so belt needed to be a bit longer? IDK.[/QUOTE]
Thank you for investigating. When you compare the stock Cat 104 (2017) to the 112 (2018+), Cat specs are the same +/- lol https://www.countrycat.com/pub/media/attachments/Snowmobile_Drive_Belt_Dimensions.pdf
With the success of the 827/829 with cat clutches, I would think the 825 would have similar results for Yami clutches.

Why are we confusing things even more now with clutching between the arctic cat clutching and the sidewinder clutching,the last time I checked this is a Yamaha site and I feel things should be talked only about Yamaha clutches,if you guys with the cats want to talk belts and clutches start a thread about them only on that thread. jm2cents

Snowbeast, here is my 5 cents....

I can understand where you are coming from, however the Thundercat is identical to my SRX aside from the clutches. To oust someone that is just as passionate as me because their sled has a different sticker is unfair imo.

There has been a good exchange of information in this post, some of which has come from cat guys riding the same sled as us. They too, it appears, have been having belt issues and they too, have had better luck using the xs belt. Their opinions lended more support in my justifying ditching the 8jp belt. I'm glad they chimed in and shared their experiences as I think we all benefited here.

The focus of the post took a slight turn and there were a few posts concerning team clutches. None of these discussions were negative in nature and things progressed there naturally as our fellow cat guys leaned on each other for answers to some common questions. I dont think this was done purposely or with malice. They are just as passionate as we are and this site is the best in the world when it comes to the 998 turbo.....who can blame them for coming here!!!

I'm not sure what the site rules are surrounding the discussion of other brands and or clutches of other brands. I'm not a moderator, nor an expert, but as the initiator of this post I want to hear what the cat guys have to say. Much of what affects them affects me and any information they can contribute imo benefits us all!!

Hi fleecer,i was not trying to oust anyone,i agree that turboflash has a lot of very good info,but it gets confusing enough when we only talk about just the sidewinder,than we ad any cat 9000 series and as you saw,it becomes very confusing to the trained eye,now you add newby,s to this site,you see where I am coming from,thats why I suggested starting there owne thread,and let everyone understand,this is heads up cat and Yamaha 998 motor only sleds,and state the differences.

I think most the Cat guys are all over here now, since there are just more topics over here then HCS.

As for belts, easy.....Ultimax XS for either Cat or Winder is best belt for longevity. But be sure to get the alignment correct first using Dave's bar(for Winder).

I went from snapping several belts to going an entire season(season 2) when I got alignment correct and Ultimax XS.

BTW the new TIMKEN Warranty is slick as hell....Get your replacement FAST now!

Whether we like to admit it or not, we 998 guys are all in the same boat and its has amazed me how well we have assimilated since the hostility period when the Yamacat Vipers were first introduced...the "Borg" would be envious.
Its all good, and IMO, everyone that has positive imput and can further our knowledge is welcome.
Clutching knowledge breaches all brands.
I was late to the Yamacat game and I am just starting to appreciate what a great sled my 2019 Sidewinder is.

I got a big smile when I got to swap with a buds RR. Bone stock those Cats corner to corner are a blast. Way way different then my Winder was stock, honestly I was not impressed with the Winder stock, it needed a tune bad!

I am also runnig a Cat. A 2018 High Country. Have been running the Team clutches the first year, but blowed 2 belts. By the way the primary is the Team Rapid Reaction, and the secondary is the Team BOSS. It is written on it. So after blowing 2 Cat belts, I swapped Yamaha clutches, jackshaft and 21/41.
It is really interesting to ear from both side. As one day I might retry the Team. But as I am a Yamaha guy at first, I will for sure try to make the Yamaha clutch work as I want. They feel more responsive than the Team's in my opinion. And this year I will also try the XS825, and one big factor is because of its length. Right in.

IMO, I think you'll have better results with XS belts compared to OEM Cat.

I am posting actual pics of stock 2017 Cat clutches. I was wrong about what they are actually called, I apologize.
Primary says "Team Rapid Response" (BTW- this is the warranty replacement primary). Secondary says "Team Boss Rapid Reaction."
