Who listens to the reviews anyways? You know the opinions are scripted by the manufacturer, and delivered with the sponsorship cheque. I they do offer their own opinion, it sounds like they are trying to speak to the kids that are going to cover their sleds with "monster energy" stickers!
As Yamaha owners, we are proven to be more intelligent, and we do not need to be told that we have a superior product. We know better than to buy into gimmics, or hype!
I am happier putting money towards modifications, instead of motor rebuilds!
I am not a sheep! I form my own opinions!

Can anyone imagine Consumer reports doing a sled evaluation? Do they still use those dots, like, really good, pretty good, just ok, pretty bad and Cat like...? lol...they probably never heard of a snowmobile....then again, I don't read anything from them so I really can't say.

I stopped buying snowmobile mags years ago and stopped watching sleds shows on the TV. Content sucks for the most part. Kinda like one long advertisement!

Same here....haven't bought one in decade, and even cancelled Autoweek when they started actually LIKING prius' and electric cars...used to be more performance oriented, and the race results were only a week old...then they went to bi weekly, and even covered motorcycles once in a while.
Whatever....although it was funny...how many free supertrax's do we get ( I think I get three or four, usually with the New York State snowmobile mag edition, which I get cuz I'm in a club) and then supertrax says 'most READ or DISTRIBUTED snowmobile mag....'

Doesn't sound like the normal adjective laden Trax talk though, reserved for other brands..'impressive' ...really? Based on the 1049...really? I think the only comparo is they are 3 cylinders. ..it ain't the 973 vector nor the 1049 nytro/viper motor....it is new and is HUGE!!
This is the kind of time you let loose with the adjectives. ...like great for the sport...awesome....most powerful production sled ever....etc.etc.etc....just my humble opinion..horsepower and horsepower leading companies tend to sell and generate lots of interest and opinions on both sides...

I thought it was a short stroked 1050. Dont think they build a whole new block! So based on the 1050 is accurate unless you know something I don't?

No, just my warped opinions, and first impression reading it....it might share a block, but many engines have shared something in the past, and they will say brand new design. Isnt the 1049 the same block as the 973? In my mind, a statement like that from Yamaha about a new design taking 3 or 5 years....is a new design , but the article gives an impression it's the 'same' as an existing motor, with a turbo....just seems a little misleading on purpose, like a subtle political smear....plus, with their casting prowess, and ability to modify molds or patterns, wouldn't you want to hear the block was reinforced for additional stresses placed on it? Then it's just based on an idea, not a parts bin... motor. I just think they could have really gotten as excited just this once for a yamaha....like first down Kevlar lake and all the guys drool at Larry's burger pit....lol....like they do when poo or doo comes out with a new ski or spindle. ....remember when people were pissed when they heard their Pontiac or Oldsmobile motors were really Chevy engines? Wonder if any parts were shared by GM back then.....

go read the T-cat review....they say the motor is 1000cc- maybe that's why it's a $100 more lol

Well, an avg.cost of say 17,000 divided by 998 is about $17 per cc, so the bigger cat engine should be $34, with 10% tax, $37.40 more. Maybe it comes with with spare belt to make up the 100...hehehe...

Stock block, shorter stroke, low compression pistons = turbo motor. Yamaha said the last three hole was a new design, The last Apex engine a new design. You read way to much into it.
T-Cat was in its final displacement a 998 but they called it a 1000. Cat likes to round out the number.
998 = 1000 cc Cat, Yamaha same motor!
