Why not just stop in a safe out of the way place as far off the trail possible and not at the bottom of crests or turns.![]()
Because the common sense (or lack of) in people just seems to be getting worse and worse.
Take my first ride of this season for example.....
Coming down the trail about 11am in the morning. Trails were good and mostly straight aways so our group was clipping at a good speed. A curve came up and wouldn't you know it....5 sleds parked on the trail, 2 on 1 side and 3 on the other blocking the trail. For what you may ask? Talking and taking a smoke break. This is on a railroad grade where is was pretty much straight down on both sides. I was able to stop in time, but I knew my group was coming fast behind me. I yelled at them to clear the trail. My group was able to slow down and they also said something to them. A few minutes later I witnessed a bunch of sleds coming the other way and motioned to them to slow down. Our group ran into these sledders later on and I asked if the group moved their sleds.....the leader said nope, they continued standing around and smoking their butts.
I've learned a thing or 2 as there are some out there that don't give a rats "you know what" about anything or anybody else. If it was snowing harder or if I was traveling at a very high speed....I would have had to make a decision to hit their sleds or drive off the grade which was at least 12 feet down. So now....I, along with my friends that ride with me have made a decision to not even ask politely if we come across this exact situation again. We are going to immediately pull forward enough, walk back to their sleds, start flipping their sleds off of the grade. If you are that stupid to block the trail on both sides on a curve (which is not part of a slow down area), risk my life and others with your incredible stupidity, then not doing anything after 5 or so people bitched you out.....you deserve having your sleds thrown off of the railroad grade for you to fetch.

As far as lights, yes..... definitely figure out something that will let other riders know that sleds are sitting.
I have an led light that is mounted on my helmet on the rear. This helps in many occasions. It helps with snow dust as the sled is so low that the snow dust hides the rear tail light. Also helps for when you would have issues with the sled as you can use the light as a flashlight and best part yet is that if you happen to hit a deer, hit a washout or just fall of your sled.....at least you can aim the light to the rider behind you so he doesn't run you over.

I agree. Was up in the UP a week ago coming down the trail which runs along the road & we came across a bridge with high walls & at that point you turn left after the bridge to continue on & would't
you know it, sitting right around the bridge was 5 sleds right in the middle of the trail. I am likely that I was going very slow. This could have been really bad. Some people are really stupid or no imagination.

Don't the 850 Doos come standard with flashing lights to warn of a stopped sled on the trail?
Red for blown engines, and yellow for cracked tunnels?

I use reflective tape same that is found on all commercial trailers. My helmet is orange I used the red it's made by 3M although it's not a light I've always got a positive response from others while traveling at night.

What bugs me is when my own group does this.
Even worse when I look back and people park away from me - the leader - leaving my sled in the way.
I move my sled interrupting the stop to make the point
