suspension inspection while out on bench (excessive travel)

You will be fine with your weight and that spring.
When you put it back together set the transfer rod in the stock position and set the suspension sag with you on the sled and take it from there as you said.
Do you have the measurements for the ohlins shock to set proper rider sag ?
Also consider snow trackers, you will be amazed how the sled will handle and they last for years.
i think transfer rod is set stock already and i think the measurements for the shock are in the thread link above by msgt van. never heard of snow trackers.

i looked up the snow trackers. they look strange......how high does ski sit ?.....looks like theyd get destroyed with some ditch banging

Strange is good lol..
They will be fine when ditch banging but I wouldn’t ditch bang with an apex.
Being a heavy front end sled you will go crazy trying to dial in the handling, yes some carbide setups may work in some conditions but then you will be disappointed when the conditions change.
Put on snow trackers you won’t be disappointed, the season is already short as it is.
Do a search on here you will see how happy people are with snow trackers especially on single keel skis like you should have.

i was looking at the bergstrom triple carbides (comes w free ski savers and ski shims). same price. how high do skis sit and how many miles approx the snowtrackers good for? i dont mean literal ditch banging but i have to go from trail to road to lake to field often

The skis will sit a bit higher with the trackers then with normal carbides but that has no affect, only the carbide touches the ground not that U shape piece you see on the trackers.
The U shape piece keeps the sled from darting which you will be experiencing unless you buy the snow trackers, the apex is a totally different sled than any other.

Crossing roads won’t do anything to trackers, this will be my 3rd season with many miles on a set of trackers and they are still in great shape, just last December on one trip we rode about 60km on the shoulder to bypass a closed section of a trail in northern Quebec and they held up great.

I have over 40 000km on an apex since my first apex gt back in 2007 and I’m only trying to help you out, believe me go with the snow trackers you won’t regret it.

Ask other guys on here about trackers and how long they last and you will only get positive results.

Listen to Fabio. I’ve been riding Apex sleds for over a decade now, and I wouldn’t put any other carbide on this, or any other DB based sled. They work fantastic on a Nytro too.

Or you could do like the rest of us and try every kind out there and some are pretty good Bergstrom are real nice and last a long time but eventually you will try ST's and see why they are so great. your choice totally we have just been there done that before. over the years there has been many carbides that were the best thing to come along. go back to 2006 when the apex first started and read carbide posts all the way up till about id say 2010-or 11 when they started to show up on the market and then many were still stuck on their old favorites as they all tried the ST's they pretty much all came around to only buying them. SO do as you like.

I will be the odd one out. I have a fairly new set of aggressive ST. I loved the way they handled but my complaint would be loading and unloading. I have a ramp I use that came with my trailer most issues I had was unloading.

I now run bergstrom triple points and like them. Id have to check my notes but I believe theres close to 4k on them. I will be looking at them this weekend but Im thinking they will be good still.

I'm in the same boat. I tried the ST's but went back to Bergstroms. My first set of Bergstroms lasted 10,000 miles.

finally installed rebuilt skid. ....... all the lower bogies were toast. ......found some decent ones made by yamaha w replaceable bearings,....... put on marginal snow wheel kit....... re riveted the front stop slides and added silicone to keep them tight,. removed all old grease, cleaned and reinstalled w mobil 1 synthetic grease. also ended up needing the upper slides(slider 1 and 2)....in the pic i posted the black ones were very worn......white ones were prob ok but had nothing to compare them too..the white ones actually look like they are useless and would never see contact which is strange........... . checked shock spring measurement loaded and un loaded. also had some silver rustoleum and freshened up since had some surface rust. hopefully shell be problem free for a cpl seasons

I have liked both Bergstrom triples and ST. ST are my favorites and I have had no loading or wear / bend issues in thousands of miles
I too thought they looked vulnerable but they have proven to myself and many other TY riders they are not.

Suspension looks great!

well it is loaded up w many studs. 144 atleast . cant run it too loose i have it set at 1 in. w 10lb weight sitting middle of track. this sled just sat and did nothing for years (neglected) 06 w 1600 miles. was a bit of a task bringing back up to par

I hear ya, too loose and those studs will tear up the exhaust. Mines not studded.
