Since many of us are running 1.325 studs now days, I am wondering if anyone has tried the taller of the two large nuts on 1.325's? I know Woody's reccomends the shorter ones for this length but it looks like you would still get decent penetration with the tall ones.
Has anyone ever tried just using a second set of standard nylocs on top of the first set? Since I gave my 800 Gade to my son he is starting to bend a few studs and I thought this might be a cheap solution.
Thanks,
Chris

I bought tall nuts for mine as I have bent 5 with short nuts last 2 seasons combined.

with the 1.325s I recommend the tall nuts(short barrel) along with the XL polymer(thicker) backers..this gives you excellent strength and will stop bending, and is also the LIGHTEST combonation there is for less rotating mass..
doubling nuts MAY helpo abit in strength but it will ADD much much more weight.
Even the TALLEST ALUM nuts are far less in weight then the standard STEEL short nuts.

I have used them all last year with exellent results. The previous years i bent lots of studds and got sick of replacing them all the time. The tall nuts have eliminated that completely.

Buy MACK STUDS and the nuts they sell. The only thing Woody's is better at is MARKETING!!! The Mack's and far far better studs.

I used Woody's Big Nuts and I didn't bend one stud until I rode Tug Hill in late March where there was nothing but mud & rocks.
However, if you look at the attached pic, I bent more than studs. This picture should let you know how rough the ride was. Despite the injury, only 3 mildly bent studs all on single backers...
I rode almost 2,000 miles before that ill-fated ride.
Big Nuts work. I recommend them.

I used megabites with double angled backers and tall nuts, 144 in last years RX-1 no bent studs and excellent traction, approx. 1500 mls. here in western NY where the snow gets awful thin. I did retorque them after a few hundred mls. Am going to use the same studs in my RTX,as part of trade in deal I took all the goodies off RX-1 including air kit, clutch kit studs, light weight battery, torque arm,& shims on sec. clutch also the plugs. and skiis

I tryed posting this a while back but people got confussed between the 2 sizes of big nuts. I asked woodys and they recommend the shorter of the ones, But I think you could use the longer as there is room and they are the same priceAttak said:Since many of us are running 1.325 studs now days, I am wondering if anyone has tried the taller of the two large nuts on 1.325's? Storm-chaser,
Yes, that is what I was trying to get at. There are two sizes of tall nuts. The 1.325's are the longest ones that use the short "tall nuts" if that makes sense. I was hoping someone here had tried the longer ones with 1.325's. It appears they will still get decent penetration but the Woody's rep says use the short ones. I am more concerned about my 800 Gade with my son on it. He of coarse has to mat it every chance he gets.
Thanks,
Chris

I will be using them on my outside rows of studs. Regular nuts in the center of the track.
No matter what, I will always use power-plate backers.

Call Mack, or go to their website. http://www.mackstud.com/
They use a normal nut but a washer in place of the tall nut. I have not bent ONE of their studs. I'm sure it's possible but I haven't seen it yet. They will sell them to you directly if you call them. Looks like something around $1.75 total per stud including nuts washers and backers.

Dude do you really trust the plastic backers?? I am scared to try them but would love to reduce the weight!! Tell me your serious thoughts please!!machzed said:with the 1.325s I recommend the tall nuts(short barrel) along with the XL polymer(thicker) backers..this gives you excellent strength and will stop bending, and is also the LIGHTEST combonation there is for less rotating mass..
