Put on super quiet muffler today. No upper mount for retention spring to hook to or drop into slot, so I suppose not needed. However, no way of getting that inside bolt on given lack of space between wider 2.5 inch pipe and flange. Everything else went on fine. Even put on original cover to stealth. Any one else find this?

Just leave it out, that's even what Ben recommends and I had zero problems in 1300 miles with it that way.

How about the bottom of the muffler, are yours resting on the insulation at the bottom of the belly pan ? Opposite the outlet.

It sits down in the exhaust gasket flange the same way the stocker does I think . . . All the mufflers I fitted (I may be the world's foremost expert Sidewinder-muffler-changer-outter) sit in the bottom of the belly pan through the rubber ringed gasket/flange.

Yes it sits in the, and through the rubber o-ring, (a little more exiting would be nice) My concern is the opposite side of the outlet, closest to the chaincase/oil tank. Mine I find rests on the insulation,(which I assume is fire retardant ) but still would get pretty hot there. It sits down in the exhaust gasket flange the same way the stocker does I think . . . Wondering if most if not all are like that ?

Thanks. My concern to very close to oil tank but I managed to wrap he stock casing so it it has an OEM look too it. I'll be sending my stock in for the modded stock has a future replacement.Yes it sits in the, and through the rubber o-ring, (a little more exiting would be nice) My concern is the opposite side of the outlet, closest to the chaincase/oil tank. I was thinking of buying this same muffler but due to Maine's choice to give the wardens of Maine almost unlimited authority I'm concerned about noise and wether I can "hide" the new muffler under the stock heat shroud or shields. Does the shield fit well and does it appear stock with it in place? I know I can have my stock nodded but same thing would they wardens see any welds if they looked? Thanks

Definitely not modded as the outer case is riveted onto brackets that are welded t muffler. Unless they are up to speed on pipe thickness which would mean taking apart to see it.
Even on the SQ. I ended up wrapping tighter drilling new holes and re-riveting snug, Looks stock like in TD site.

The TD SQ is very close to stock sound levels. There are several examples of guys putting the stock shield with the SSCC stamping around the SQ and I don't think any warden would look closely unless you were being stupid and he was "looking" for a reason. It just isn't "that" much louder. Now having said that, if you're really concerned, the TD Stock Mod is the way to go. Based the dyno testing of other stock mod mufflers, it's within a couple hp of the SQ's MagnaFlow. So you're not giving up much if anything with the TD Stock Mod vs. the proven SQ.I was thinking of buying this same muffler but due to Maine's choice to give the wardens of Maine almost unlimited authority I'm concerned about noise and wether I can "hide" the new muffler under the stock heat shroud or shields. Words of wisdom from our new self proclaimed (and earned) MCO: muffler-changer-outer. How many times have you had the muffler off? 50? 100?
Did your wife throw out the lingerie & replace with TurboDynamics stickers?

Stainless still hex head. 8mm x 1.25 x 20. I've been using the Permatex copper anti-seize with good results, but my muffler has never been on all that long. I saw the nickel-based anti seize that Dan found on Amazon and ordered it. It has a much higher temp threshold - 2400F. But the copper 1800F always seems to have done a good job.BeerDude, what bolts are you using for muffler & what do you put on them?

I've legitimately R&R'd the Sidewinder muffler a minimum of 20 times, probably more. Counting a couple oil changes, maintenance tasks and all the muffler testing.Words of wisdom from our new self proclaimed (and earned) MCO: muffler-changer-outer.
