I just piked up an 08 40th aniversery nytro. I got one weeked of running in before the meltdown(snow not the sled). The warning light and temp light were on and off a lot,but it never seemed hot. The coolant was fine. the trails had loose snow on them but sometimes it seemed to help if i got into some fluffy snow. A steady run of 60 or so would make it turn off for a minute or so. From what I have been reading here I may need a fan relay, the fuse is fine. Any other sugestions?

get ice scratchers, check your coolant, might want to "weaken" it up some and add some water wetter.

My light will come on depending on conditions for the past several years or 16000km. The fan will ultimately come on andbring the temp down. The last 2 years I just keep going. I have never had it overheat and shut down.

It's not hitting. The light started the first year before I even had the trail tank on.

I was asking 1975fa
You could also drain the coolant out and pull new in with the right mix (50/50)

No trail tank. The sled never shut down from heat. Antifreeze mix is a good thought. The onwer's manuel says 3 parts antifreeze to 2 parts water, but the richer the mix the higher the boiling point. What do you guy's think of adding hood vents? How loud is the fan when it comes on, can you hear it when the sled is idling?09nytro said:I was asking 1975fa

Very hard to hear the fan. Hood venst area a good idea...another ty member on here ( Mach9 ) took the tuning fork emblems off on the side of the hood, cut holes and put SLP Flow rites ( vents ) there...it allows the air to be directed into the rad and out again...he said he could feel hot air being coming out the vents as he rode. I have a pic somewhere and will post it if I find it.

I did the same, however in certain conditions, the overheat light would still come on.
The best thing I did, was to add the tunnel heat exchanger from the Nytro MTX.

X3 on scratchers. Slidekicks can be mounted just behind your front axle rubber stoppers at the tip of the rails. In this position they kick up a ton of snow and can be lifted if not used. Another buddy uses the Yamaha scratchers that attach to your antisway bar mounts on your a-arms. Seemed to work well too. Spring scrachers work better, but hard to position on our sleds.
I ran the Slidekicks for 1200km's of hard trail last weekend in Gaspe (...after the big 20 deg. C melt the prior thursday). Others overheated and burned up slides. I had no temp light and sliders looked new after the run.
Won't run without them.

So what happens with the scratchers if you back up? Do you need to hook them out of the way to back up?
