Not enough snow IMO but make sure your sled's cooling system is fully purged of air. Besides lifting the front and rear to get the air out, I would run the sled for 15-20 minutes with the radiator cap loose then tighten it.
Do the 06's have the rear tunnel cooler? If not I personally would add one ASAP. Inexpensive improvement and easy to do. Hibshman (Barn of Parts) should have one.

Temp light also comes on prematurely. Add one of our engine savers and it will alert you by activating reverse beeper when coolant reaches 240 degrees. There's info on my website.
I have an 05 Vector and this happened to me when it was knew. Found out Yamaha runs straight antifreeze in them. I took some coolant out of the tank and put 50/50 antifreeze in and never have had my temp light come on again in low snow conditions. Over 13,000 miles on sled now.

I'm guessing that you were just puttering around the yard slowly, stopping frequently and combining that with low snow likely caused the overheat light to come on.
Tips:
- go faster in order to throw snow at the front heat exchanger
- add a rear tunnel heat exchanger
- thin the coolant strength with distilled water...Yamaha sends them out with -60 degree strength coolant.
Since the Vector also has heat exchangers mounted outside the tunnel under the foot boards, if you still encounter an overheat situation, pile snow on the foot boards while riding. It helps under extreme conditions.
