I had my dealer put a teher on my Apex Mtn last year and I admit I never tested it-figured they di when they put it on- and have never used it until last weekend and it didn't work. It's a Gunnar which I see is normally closed style and it is tepped into the brown wire with a white stripe. Now, I admit I do not understand much about electrical and switches but research shows some types are open.

So, how do you know whether you need open or closed?

Thxs.

You need a normally close tether. Gunnar makes both normally open and closed types.

Assuming the switch is installed correctly, it could be that the contacts within the switch body are stuck. Try rapping on the switch with something to see if you can free them up. If this works you should probably still replace the switch so it functions when you need it.

If a normally open switch had been installed by your dealer and, it was wired in properly your sled would not have started with the tether in place.

For what it’s worth, I found several negative reviews on the Gunnar systems in the ATV forums. I went with an Arctic Cat tether.

Get a different brand. Gunners are total junk. I went through two of them and both are shot. Going to run a Pingel this year. I tried to save a couple bucks and now I am out more money than if I would have bought the expensive one in the first place.
