Got a buddy looking for a new sled and is interested in a 2008 Phazer Mountain. All comments on this sled would be appreciated good or bad.

He is a new user and would only want a top speed of 120 - 130 km/h, is about 300 lbs and 6 foot tall. He has driven my sled a bombarider 550 f touring and liked the ride but not the low seating and the top speed of 100 km/h. ( I am a little bigger than him but used to my sled)

He is convinced to buy a Yammie and was considering a used 2004 RX-1 but did not like the low seating on this....unlike the new forward design of the 08 Phazer.

anyhing you can provide to me would be great.

Whats the top speed for this sled with a man his size?

Is the suspension good and will it handle his weight?

Is he better buying a short track?

Thanks

at 300lbs + gear I would think if money isn't an issue
I'd go for a Nytro or a Turbo Phazer saw an almost new T'phazer or SC'Phazer for $7000

Otherwise for the good bad and ugly

Good: No complaints really, it goes where I expect it would

Bad: Snow build up(easily remedied) on running boards

Ugly: Don't expect it to go everywhere and you wont be dissappointed..

Yeah, go for a Nytro or a turbo Phazer. If you have a Phazer with a turbo and a 151" track, you will be able to go everywhere, and have more HP everywhere over the Nytro.

well i havnt had her wide open iv only gone to 110 down out road because it was cold as hell that day and when we drive down the creek were usually going about 40-50 the whole time they have good gas mileage if that helps :-)

My phazer owns all my fellow sledders sleds :P very happy with it

But you are hardly 300lbs eh Cody! That might be a difference for you - ahaha.

Maybe the guy looking for the new sled should consider the new '09 Venture TF with the 120FI engine and lots of suspension and track.

The phazer wouldn't seem quite the right size for him.

All the best

I'm about 170 lbs and the top speed I've got is 132 km/h on a pond on the speedometer. Quick to around 100 then it slowly makes its way to about 120 and sometimes will eventually crawl to 132 km/h. Note all these speeds are on the dreemometer. The other day I checked it on my GPS and at 90 km/h, it wasn't quite 10 km/h off. i.e. I was actually doing 80 km/h.

Also, the stock rear suspension is very soft. Even on medium size bumps I bottom out. Many riders have installed stiffer springs from some of the other phazers to improve ride. The stock springs are 1700 N/mm or something like that. You can get the springs from the other models in this chassis, in various strenghts all the way up 3000 N/mm. IMO if he got this sled he should upgrade the suspension.

Also, as BombaPolaYama said, he should look at the the new venture TF (TF is basically a semi off trail package, wider skis and a track that articulates in reverse). I believe for 09 Yamaha moved the venture in a different chassis that is a bit more "rider forward" than the old chassis.

Also he might be interested that its no trouble for a tank of gas (30 L) to last 200 km.

Hope this helped

JP
