so its basically like our NB registration then.... but still, i'm very surprised that a copy with signatures on it is not legit.... all they are looking for is proof of ownership/sale back of reggy signed, with bill of sale will hold up in any court....
we just need to find somebody on here that has exported out of NY state....

What if you went up through Vermont? Would it add too much time to the trip coming back through Québec?

Unfortunately, it would add about 6 hours of driving. Right now, I'm planning on going down of Friday, buy the sled, have the sled stored in Ogdensburg, take the papers to the US Customs and go back on Monday to pick it up exactly 72 hours later. This is probably the simplest way. Ogdensburg is a little over an hour from my place so this is better for me. Storage should be $10/day.

They do it on weekends, especially being Easter weekend?
You should come down next year for the NY'ers Phazer ride, only 5 hours away. Bring the family & make a weekend of it, we'd love to have ya'

Same thought I had.

I feel sorry for you Canadians. Here a new sled has to go to a established US address. Then any Warranty work has to be done in US or whole warranty is void. Its as if the Canadian and US sides of the companies are competing with each other. This is all the manufacturers not just Yamaha.I can see how rules like this allow companies to build different sleds for different markets but I sure wouldnt want to take a chance on losing any warantee especially with Yamaha's reputation of doing repairs even when sled is well out of warantee in some cases. The dealer selling out of country could easily lose franchise and get fined.Think how easy it would be to figure it out in this day with internet and such. Not sure if even registering a US sled in Canada would trigger this but it could easily be spotted by a simple search program.

Hey cannondale.... the dealers that have been warned about this are usually close to the border... in 08 both my apex's came from conneticut(spelling??).. i used an american address for yamaha's warranty, but registered them both in NB... warranty was only 12 months so not a big deal. I saved so much $$$ up front that if anything went wrong i could easilly just pay out of pocket for parts...(i do ALL my own work.... kinda a nal).. even so.. 1.5 hrs drive to closest US dealer for warranty... but after 4 years, and 21000 combined miles.... nothing i can't handle my own!...

I hear you.Nothing in last two years for me either and if something came up now I wouldnt feel right asking for any help from Yamaha at this point since I have more than gotten my $'s worth but in 09 I was well out of warranty and they covered some parts.Yes I had to jump through some hoops but at time I did feel I deserved to be compensated. It showed me Yamaha does take pride in what they build since legally I had no right asking. This has been proven in many cases in the past also.I know people who have gotten W arms and even shocks way after any warrantee was out.Years out.It took calls and diligence on thier part but was well worth it.I would just hate to see someone give that chance up especially with how long our sleds are now lasting. It could even be a safety issue since I doubt any recalls would be sent to a guy.

But then don't the dealers get paid by the manufacturer for the warranty work the same as if it was work performed for a customer? I can't see dealers eating the costs of any parts or labour incurred. And when you buy a new sled, does the dealer actually ask for ID? You could just get a PO box in the US or use somebody's address you know.

Yes the dealer does ask for ID.Drivers license. At least ones I went to did.No in many cases warranty work does not pay as well as normal shop work.Especially considering the hrs involved in doing the paperwork and time on phone getting it all approved. This is especially true if your sled wasnt bought at dealership work is getting done at.The work will get done but it only makes sense to make the customers who are return customers happy first especially if the work is something that can be done fast enough to get them back on trails asap. The warrantee approval process has a play in that since it could take days or even weeks to get approval.

The dealer I go to doesn't ask for ID (course I've known him for 20+ years). They've done my rear skid/ "W" bracket update + new starter all under warranty this year- I think they get paid a pretty decent penny doing the work. It's gotta be worth in the long run for them.
They had an answer for both jobs within hours and my sled was bought 400 miles away.
Maybe some dealers have better pull with Yamaha Corp and know the right people???

My local dealer/ owner started out as just a mechanic working for a shop and been on with Yamahas since high school (over the 20 year mark now).....

If ever I'm in the market for a new sled, I'll PM you for his info. Always good to know of these good dealers. BTW, just an update on my deal in NY, I haven't been able to get in contact with the seller. I tried to call and sent emails, no response even though he did call me at first. I left him a last voicemail yesterday saying if it's sold or otherwise no longer available, fine. Just let me know but I am still interested. I'll let him chase after me now.
