The Shocking Truth About Stock Nytro's In the Steep And Deep

I modified the back half of mine. I think it did help some but had very little time to find deep enough snow to give it a true test.

My 08 Nytro with mtn.tamer and a new track is out climbing my 2 buddies 08 M8, they cant beat me in a lake run either.

Ditto ntm_08. Since I installed my MT rear suspension & 2.5 x 156 CE track, I'm running with the big boys.

Summer plans: install new running boards, tunnel exhaust & NO.

Cut off the back half of your running boards and really be impressed ntm_08. Or get a new tunnel.

really? That big of a difference? Has there been any posts with this info? I need to do some digging...

Thanks.

It makes a huge difference when your in the deep. Those boards are like surfboards on the sides of your sled. Hold you up when you start trenching for traction. I narrowed mine like 1/2" on each side and cut the boards off right past the drop brackets. This summer going to get a VE tunnel.

Had a week off so I went to Idaho and Utah for some sweet snow. I brought my three sleds. The first part of my week off I went to Island Park and Kilgore, ID. Great snow had more fun than ever before. I was riding my boosted sled with the OEM drivers (knew I should have changed them out for no-slip drivers when I changed the track but I decided to get one season out them) and melted them down to nothing. When I first felt them slip I tied the track, it helped at first but shortly after they started slipping again. To much HP for OEM.
So the rest of my trip was spent on my non-boosted sled riding in Utah. It was still fun but my last day I went riding with two 09 M8's and two 800 Poo's. I couldn't come close to out climbing them and the sled I was riding wasn't stock just not boosted (timbersled, exhaust, tunnel mod, clutching, etc). One hill I sat at the bottom and watched the 800's climb to the top. I tried it on my sled and made it about half and then turned out. I regretted not changing the stupid OEM drivers on my boosted sled at the time. One friend let me ride his M8. I took it to the top with ease. His sled was stock only mod was a 2010 seat. I do have to say it would have been more fun if the M8 was boosted. My sled had about 3K worth of mods. I have the stock MAV track (which is crap) on the sled. It will be replaced soon. Boost is a must for the 4 stroke.
On my way back home I stopped in Nampa, ID to pick up no-slip drivers and a challenger extreme form Tom Hartman. Great guy to work with. www.hartmaninc.com This week will be spent in my shop installing westcoastsled front suspension, drivers, 19 tooth gear and CE track. When I told my wife want I was doing this week she said so I'm going to be single again for a week.
Bottom line you have to boost your sled. Stock sleds such. Doesn't matter what you ride.

Is it safe to assume that the M8's and other 800's all had 162" tracks?

I am curious what the results would of been if you had a 162 Challenger Extreme on your non-boosted Nytro.

The M8's had the powerclaw track and the poo's were CE track, all were 162.
I bought a new CE track because the stock track such and I could tell that it was spinning when I accelerated. I will have to try it out. I've only heard that they are better. I do have one on my boost sled but it's hard to compare with stock because of the HP increase. Probably be next season because I'm working on the boosted sled for know and the snow is going fast. Might not be enough time to do both.

did you go to a 162" track on your stock one or did you just upgrade to the challenger extreme 2.5" 156" track?

I would be curious to see the comparisons after the track change.

The stock maverick track compared to a CE is night and day difference. I wasn't there and don't know the hill but it probably would have taken you over the top if the 800s were easily climbing it.

are you comparing the 156" 2.5" track on the nytro to 162" tracks on the 800's?

You have any experience with the 153" 2.25" challenger track on the nytro?

Well you guys are scaring me a bit. Our 2011 Mountain trip will be our 4th but my 1st on a Nytro. I'll let you know how I make out with my 136x15x2 challenger in Cooke next March. (Pray for hero snow I guess) ;)!

Dont be worryed, you seem like the type that likes to rally a sled. It just like any other sled you hold it pinned and make it go where you want it to go. Get it set up right and it will do what you need it to.

Sorry, a 136 out west..

especially especially places like Cooke...well, it will limit you to sticking on or near trails...

You will struggle severely moving into deep pow....there just isnt the footprint to make it truly enjoyable...But then again, March is a good time, and you could get some good hero snow depending...Recent years, snow has been deepest in April, and sketchy in March...

But then again, just being out west is fun, and will be fun to experience new things...

With my 136x2 I've done 2 trips to Revelstoke BC and 1 to Cooke City Montana....and I never stuck close to the trail LOL.

But at the time it was strapped to a 800 Rev. The only NEW variable is the Nytro.

I went with the 162 CE Track for both sleds.
