Hello, after selling my doo, which I had zero issues with my 600etech, thinking about grabbing a 2014 leftover around here on Long Island. Anything specific with theses sleds I should look out for? I like the idea of gas and go, I knownit will not be an 800 or the 1000 my buddies are riding but I am a very aggressive trail rider so as big as those motors are I am not worried. Thanks in advance

- 2016 Viper XTX-LE w/ MPI turbo
Do some reading. The 14's are good. Just make sure it has had all the updates done. I researched for more than two years all the new sleds and I picked one of these. I have ridden a friends XF 7000 and really liked it. I know with some tweaking my Viper will be all that plus a lot more.

This is a good place to start. To be honest if you go through all 3153 threads on here your head will be spinning. Keep in mind until you have ridden it no one can tell you what you need. Every ones expectations are different. Ride it and then if you want to make changes, then look them up.
I bought a 14 turbo'd it and made all kinds of changes over the last 2 yrs. I then bought a 15 that if I did not have the turbo coming off the 14 to put on it was perfectly fine in its stock form.
The thing to know is that all 3 models of 14's RTX (129") LTX (137" and XTX (141") are completely different and a little look into each of them may help deciding which model you want.
This is the best place to research them

Also when you are reading the FAQ's keep in mind that the majority of the issues there are two years old and all can and should be corrected with good dealer prep. Only one I hesitate on is the reflash. If the 14 you are looking at hasn't been flashed yet ask the dealer to not do it unless the sled has a issue. Not all did. Enjoy your new sled. You are going to love it!

Yes do not re-flash till after you drive it and see if it needs it

Solid advice from above. I do very much like my sled. My second big four stroke. Everything I liked about the Nytro is here and everything I hated about it isn't. This cat chassis is just sweet. It doesn't do any one thing particularly great but it does a lot of things pretty well.
That being said, it hasn't been without its headaches. None that left me stranded. Mostly just tweaking stuff here and there. Knowing what I know now, I still wouldn't hesitate to buy a left over 14.
I would however put little faith in the dealer . I advised my dealer of all the items listed on here during various visits and each and every time they were clueless. Chain case too tight? No way they said. Clamps being loose? Nope...didn't find any. Reflash the cats #*$&@? Yes...of course. Does it dart without duallys? No way... I have a goofy code related to a coil. Dealer couldn't find it ( I did....in about 30 seconds of looking...was a flippn plug not all the way in). In warrantee= look at it half assed. Out of warrantee=offer half assed advice and send you on your way with a box full of parts to try.
Maybe your dealer is better than mine.
Despite this I still think its a good sled but there is no way I would just put gas in it and go on a 500 mile weekend without doing some homework.
The nice thing is all this is well documented. Don't have time to read 3153 posts? Neither do I. Buy the sled and simply ask. Nobody here gets all butthurt when someone asks a question that has been asked before.
Quick advice:
Buy 6" dual carbides, buy MPRP trail can (so you can adjust the chain tension), check all hose clamps, insure the reverse recall thing has been done, adjust track to 1-1.25" slop, start looking into the 8DN belt change and do not have them do the flash.

Thanks guys all your advice is very helpful. There is a dealer here who has an 14' rtx and then a 15' spring order rtx le with the fic evils, it's the blue and orange so it has the standard track not the snowX track. He wants 12k for that one and 10 for the 14. Both are brand new. I saw in trot city garage he has 16's for 11,600 with warr so maybe I can use that for some leverage. Thanks for all your replies

$10K is too much for a 14 unless that is OTD including tax and warranty, should be at $8500-$9000 for an RTX. Aside from all the great advice others have given - dependent on the model be sure you plan for a real windshield and pack if you like to carry things. Also, if you start making clutch adjustments I'd go heavier with weights because my motor really loosened up after 1,000 miles, so I had to make adjustments throughout the year as the sled loosened up.

At end of season I bought a hold over 14 LTX and was able to get some miles on it and just love it. After I get it dialed in to my liking it can only get better. Just get what you like and enjoy the ride! It is to bad SeanPen has to come on here with the negative comments, I hope he enjoys his walk home when is Ski-Doo quits out on the trail.

Yeah he's got 10 posts and I bet all of them bash the viper. He got a lemon and that sucks cuz I've been there and it does leave a bad taste in your mouth for the brand. But I must say my Viper is the best sled I've ever owned or ridden. These sleds can rail corners you just need to set up the sled and ride it the way a 4 stroke is ment to be ridden which is using the natural engine braking to set the front end in the corners. That usually means a very aggressive cornering technique. I love my sled and can rip it thru the trails damn near as aggressive as my last two sleds which were SkiDoos

I'm still on the fence about buying a new sled, but when I do it'll be a viper forsure! I demoed one last year and they are awesome sleds! Like yzf1999 said, the engine braking is something to be taken advantage of. It's definitly something to get used too, but it like anything else once you do get used to it it's great. Your making the right choice by switching from doo to yamaha! You won't be doing any rebuilds that's forsure!

If you don't like vipers Sean why are you reading posts and starting crap. It's ok to share your opinion but why so negative. If you don't like it just move along. Doesn't even sound like you have a Yamaha anymore.
