If you have an orange secondary spring from Thunder Products for your sled....change your secondary wrap to 2-3

Because some clutching combinations were having issues at 3-3, they have switched their secondary setting to 2-3 and most of their issues have gone away.

The spring was harder to install at 3-3 so this will also help with installation with a 2-3 wrap.

Will be contacting Lonn this morning to inform him about the change.

Thanks to all the great members here for feedback, concern and helping figure out things that all us testers and developers of the spring...did not come across. Even in real world testing and usage, the Orange spring worked flawlessly on everything we put it on. But, with more people running the spring and receiving feedback from every type of rider out there.....a little change of the secondary setting will make a big difference....Thanks to all!

Safe trails everyone!

did you change it because of clutch heat?

3-3 easy enough 3 on the secondary sheave and 3 on the helix. Now 2-3 is it 2 on the secondary sheave or 2 on the helix? Thanks.

2 is on the sheave, inside part. No 2 on the helix

LOL....Agree with all this.

I have never fought a YAM sec spring install this much at 60 degrees.....I went down to 50 degrees few days ago after doing a pressure check, way way too much at 60 IMO.

Going to the Dalton Orange myself. ;)

Some were having belt issues, heat, blowing belts and hard to install.

50 degrees was better, less heat by far, on day 2 running it at 50 degrees I smoked my 3rd belt since installing the spring. By no means am I a super aggressive rider. We cruise at 50-60 mph and on those big northern strait stretches I like to ease into it till I'm at the bar and hold it for 5 or ten seconds. I am not to the bar and off, to the bar and off if you know what I mean. I can see blowing a belt wide open occasionally on these big hp sleds but I blew one cruising at 60-70 mph steady on the throttle.

I also had a hard time getting my rpms down with this spring. I've added 3 grams compared to last year and it still needs more.

I'm going to try my stock spring setup like last year to compare. It's really no fun blowing belts, I now understand what those last year were dealing with...

more twist equals more rpms...and the weights and drive spring play a factor...

what is the rest of your setup

I understand the physics of clutching... My point being all variables the same except the spring and I have to keep adding weight, even at 50 degrees. That tells you it's a monster doesn't it?

I'm running STM weights, ulmer primary spring and 35/39, same as last year.

Not trying to butt in, but DMC didn't you also change a gear or track from last year as well? What belt?

Yes but many others running same track with 22 gear with no issues... That's why I'm ruling out the track and gear. 8JP belt.

Only thing I changed in my clutching was the spring.

I'll figure it out, I'm just pissed I blew 3 belts.

I went back to a shimmed stock spring. 3 belts in 700miles almost every day I replace a belt trided winds from 50 to 80 i will know if stock spring solves it next weekend.
One was a gates and 2 8jps

Ok, just wanted to clarify for everyone trying to help you. Which model belt? Hope it gets figured out.

Does this apply to stock Sidewinder with a 33/35 helix also?

Haven't heard much from the stock winders running the orange spring and 33/35 helix.

If there are, I hope they mention in the thread poll what they are running and if they are having problems.

But, to be on the safe side, I don't want to see anyone blowing belts as we are trying to fix all sleds blowing belts...Mostly stock ones. Plus I don't like to hear people blowing belts left and right if using the orange spring .....set the orange secondary spring to 2-3.
