I understand the physics of clutching... My point being all variables the same except the spring and I have to keep adding weight, even at 50 degrees. That tells you it's a monster doesn't it?
I'm running STM weights, ulmer primary spring and 35/39, same as last year.
with which track?

Same here!I went back to a shimmed stock spring. 3 belts in 700miles almost every day I replace a belt trided winds from 50 to 80 i will know if stock spring solves it next weekend.
I'm going back to stock spring with helix shimmed tomorrow and will likely run the lake Thursday.
Mike Knapp gave me some good advice the other day regarding these issues.

Yes blew one with it also. I brought the stock helix with me on my trip and when I smoked the first belt I tried the stock helix but smoked one with it too so I put the 35/39 back in.Im going out on a ledge here...but have you tried the stock helix?? I think the 39 finish might be too much?

would you mind refreshing my memory... how thick are the shims we use with the stock spring?

with what twist...what tune....what rpms...and have you checked your offset and dry cycled your primary and secondary to check for interference or stiction?

Just got a pm from someone saying they bought an orange spring from Dalton, cause they didn't want to wait for customs and pay extra at the border. This person thought the springs are the same orange as Thunder Products. This spring is NOT a Thunder Products spring.
The Thunder Products spring is made out West and only supplies to Thunder Products.
Hopefully everyone on here is running the Thunder Products spring and not the Dalton Black/Orange spring?

The Dalton Black/Orange Dalton is not nearly as stiff as the all orange TP spring. The Dalton has only slightly more side force than the stock spring.
They are all black with just a stripe of orange on them. Easy to tell them apart that way.
IMO the TP orange and reverse angle helixs should not be used on any of the Hurricane Race tunes. Totally wrong setup that will only make heat and blow belts.
Heavy driven springs and not enough helix will make lots of heat and prevent shift out compared to softer springs and more aggressive helixs. Requires too much weight in the primary and bang, blown belt. Pinching the belt that hard in the driven to prevent shift out, is a stop gap measure for weak bottom and mid-range tunes.
That's about the most polite way I can state it.
If you have good bottom and mid range power, you don't need reverse angle helixs and mongo driven springs to get RPM, the tune will do that for you, and you can then get back to normal progressive angle helixs and reasonable driven springs with less tension.

It’s been mentioned the Dalton’s helix are also the same as TPS. Any truth to that also ?

While I'm a complete idiot when it comes to tech stuff, you bring up another point. Not everyone is running the same stuff . Sure they maybe running the TP orange secondary spring, but what about all other clutch components (weights, primary spring, helix, etc) and tune? Myself I have all TP clutching and a Dalton 35/39 Helix. But am stock and no tune. And of course, some are running various belts. Seems we may not all be comparing apples to apples. Food for thought. The Dalton Black/Orange Dalton is not nearly as stiff as the all orange TP spring. The Dalton has only slightly more side force than the stock spring.

So what is the purpose of these secondary springs other than prevent the binding the stock spring has? Shims and a aftermarket helix takes care of that problem. So why bother with a different spring?
