I have owned my Viper for three years now and its been a great sled
Love the reliability you get from a Yamaha so now I'm thinking of buying a Nytro
Probably be used
Is there one year better than others?
How do they compare with other 120hp sleds on the lake at top end
Mainly ride groomed trails but do blast the lakes as well

Well I jumped out and bought a 09 nytro xtx last year. Having never rode a 4stroke.
I ride mostly trails and or lakes
I found the nytro to have a firm power band from 50-85mph
It doesn't have the legs(top end) a older 2stroke triple does.
I kinda wished i would have bought a apex but nytro's can be found with much lower mileage for thousands less than a comparable apex. Saving for a supercharger!!
My dad owns a viper and it still puts a smile on my face when i ride it.
I would say get a 2010 or newer .
Better sub frame i think and better hand warmers
I rode once last year and froze my hands off with stock hand warmers. All Yamaha's need yama heaters to get warm hands.

Nytro is a totally different machine, for the riding you do an apex is more your style but hey ive had both and i liked the nytro better cause i like big bumps and the apex is to heavy for that stuff..

I went from a Viper to a very low mileage 09 Nytro 121 (whatever you call it, I think its an FX).
Like others have said there is no shortage in the bottom end power department. Its almost to the point of overkill. On the big end, mine wouldnt hit a hundo if its life depended on it. Makes no nevermind, its not a sled that begs you to ride at the upper end of the speedo like the Viper does.
First for me having reverse and electric start. First for me not having to buy oil at every other fill up. First for me getting 16 mpg but those are not the key points as many four stokes out there possess those same attributes.
Its a nice seating position and all the controls relatively easy to find and operate even at speed. I do like the sled and consider it an upgrade from the Viper. I just hope I never have to work on it. Getting TO the spare belt if you ever needed it is a 1/2 hr job the first time start to finish. I have yet to see the spark plugs and have no idea where they are. I hope I never know.
Fun sled to ride for sure. Pretty firm tho. Doesnt ride that much better than the Viper if at all. Research at this site as revealed the sled was made for moguls and operators that tip the scales North of 200 lbs. Your hands also get cold.
Am I happy with it? Yes. Does it need some tweaking? Yes but which sled have you ever owned that didnt. I think if I reworked the rear shocks to better suit my weight and got some yamaheaters I would really like it.

Doesn't ride better then your viper? Ouch, having just bought a nytro suspension was the biggest upgrade I was looking for over my SXR.Zrxpilot said:I went from a Viper to a very low mileage 09 Nytro 121 (whatever you call it, I think its an FX).

My old sled was a vmax 600 with olions shocks and my nytro rides better than any srx or vmax or viper that I have ever rode for sure,by like a 100%

Either there is something wrong or some tweaking needs to be done.. They should be no where close in ride quality

Holy crap.....1/2 hour to get your belt out? You need to get out and work on your sled more......I can remove and install the skid in that time. And the plugs really aren't that bad to change while the tank is on, tight squeeze yes but very doable.

^ I do my own work when it needs to be done. Like the original poster,I came from conventional sleds to this very recently. Point being is that this sled is not a "tip up the hood in two seconds and get at everything" kinda sled. Bought the sled very near to brand new (had 180 miles on it). I shouldnt have to work on it this early in the game. Fwiw, I havent seen the spark plugs in my wifes Hyundai that we have owned for 3 years now. Its a good sign.
The belt thing I found by accident. Took me a while to figure out how to put all the plastic back on with all the fasteners and figuring out which part goes on 1st, 2nd..... point being there is a learning curve to go thru just to get at the service parts.
The ride issue thing is speculative with many having different opinions. This sled does NOT ride any better than my Viper or 98 xc 700 for that matter. Its set up very stiff from the factory. Can it be fixed? Im sure.
Does it handle jumps and moguls better? Probably, but I have only had the chance to ride it one weekend due to the crappy winter we had last year.

once you have a few miles under your belt (no pun intended) you will probaby change your opinion of how easy these things are to work on (if you ever have to work on it

suspension settings are very key to getting these snowmachines to ride properly and once you have it right you will wonder how you ever got buy riding a snowmachine with the older smaller travel suspensions.
