ALRIGHT GUYS HELP ME OUT, I NEED YOUR INPUT ON THE CORNERING ABILITY OF MY 2003 RX1. DOES NOT HANDLE WELL AT ALL. I'VE HEARD OF GUYS CHANGING FRONT LINKAGES AND FRONT SPRINGS. WHAT CAN YOU GUYS TELL ME? THANKS. ROCHESTER, MN.

Links=longer, Swaybar=12 or 13mm, Front Shock Springs 2.3kg but don't expect too much this is not a sled to race through the twisty's with unless you got a lot of weight to throw it around. These mod's will keep both ski's on the ground much longer and improve the handling to where it is much more acceptable. Got all my parts from Pioneer Performance about $200 :) IMO well worth the investment

you have come to the right place my man.

You will need to spend some money however.

Order 1.9 or 2.3 straight rate springs from Maximum Perf.

Order 11 or 12 mm sway bar and maybe the 75 mm longer swaybar links from Yamaha.

Install all of the above and make some final adjustments like limiter straps and FRA.

Yamaha has a cheap fix, that might get you started.... Back off the preload 3mm on your front shocks, and change on of the control rod spacers.. It is all listed in the 04 Yamaha up-date/performance manual, which I don't have in fronr of me.

Good advice Grapeape,

That is exactly what the Yamaha rep told me at the Snodeo, adjust the front springs 2 turns (1 turn=1.5mm) and the 5mm spacers will cost you just $3.00.

Last year, I completely removed my spacers. Re-installed them when I sold the sled.

Slam it down. You may give up some ride, but the high speed stability is worth it too me. Pull up the limiters so there are 8 thds behind the nut on the eye side, front shock spring soft, rear as soft as feasable, front shock threads about 6 threads showing above aluminum locknut. Then swaybars, stiffer springs, and that's about as good as it will get. The lift is there, usually at slower speeds, but it is predictable when on the gas, and will plant the outside ski pretty well this low. In fact, check out some scenes from the 03 video..you will see how low they had the front..in some pics, the a arms are pivoting upwards on a flat trail. That'll help.

Replace bottom 10mm spacer with a 5 mm spacer.

By changing the 10mills spacers to a 5 mill that is letting it transfer more right? R U putting the control rods all the way up too? That is alot of transfer. I would be surprized if you could keep the front down at all? What da ya think? Honk

Here is what worked for me,
Pulled up limiter straps so when you lift the sled the skid lifts level with ground.
backed off front shock 1/4"
dropped to softest setting on rear rate adjuster.
INSTALLED SKI DOO PRECISION SKIS, THIS WIDENS THE SKI STANCE 2.5 INCHES EACH SIDE.

Handles like it's on rails.

After screwing around with the rear susp. for most of last winter , trying most of whats suggested in this thread I bit the bullet and spent some cash . I purchased the complete susp. kit from Maxximum performance over the summer and last night was the first ride of the year . Not only was the ride greatly improved but the handling was as well . Why didn't this sled come like this from the factory ?? I have spent alot of coin in the last 20 years on after market stuff and I can tell you strait out, this was the best money I have ever spent . I can see owning this sled for a couple of seasons now :) :) :)

IMO It appears that installing the straight rate springs on an 03 RX-1 is the best solution to the ski lift problem. Having the longer links also helps give the swaybar a straight equal pull. The shorter links tend to not react quick enough to the body roll that happens until its to late. I don't think you will ever make an RX-1 corner like any other pro-action chassis to date. However the suspension quality of the a-arms can be second to none and with the links and straight rate springs I think it can be made to corner in an acceptable manner. I think with the longer links and the stock valved front shocks running the OEM Yamaha 1.9 or 2.1 springs will provide the flat cornering and best ride quality most are looking for. The spring rate running the stock valved shocks would be determined by how aggressive of a rider you are. Extremely aggressive riders might want to check out the aftermarket 2.3 or 2.5s being offered by Pioneer or Maxx Performance. For best pricing or availability or questions on the OEM items give us a call or drop me an email. Thanks

SKI=LIFT

Listen to these guys. I took mine out last weekend for the first time. 2003 RX1ER. I made all of these changes before riding, Simmons Skis, 13mm, longer links, 1.9 flat rate springs. I've also added a trunk bag, traction plates for tunnel, the round yamaha side accent covers, shock covers, billett gas cap, stock mirrors (right for left/left for right) A arm covers. Waiting for the larger windshield from Yamaha, supposed to be out 2 weeks ago. this sled went exactly where I pointed it at any speed with no ski lift, only problem I had was a little ski push, I need to install 6 inch carbides instead of the 4 inch. This is an absolutley kick #*$&@ ride!
