Please explain this chaincase shim?
There is room for a half mm shim to be added behind the top gear, yet still have the clips on. This keeps the top gear further engaged into the outer gear so it is less likely to disengage.
I put both of the stock shims on first, then the .50mm on the outer side.

I'll have to double check mine when I open it up. I don't seem to remember 2 shims behind my top gear.

I believe the play that is in it is perfectly fine. 10k and I see no reason for shims other then the way it was engineered. Sorry guys I strongly disagree with changing the free play. Let it go where it wants to be it will be just fine. It has a little back and forth play for a reason IMO.

I’m with jonlafon1. No issues on any of our winders with this. Just drive it and enjoy.

We all know cats lack of engineering especially in the chaincase. For a 200 hp sled this chaincase is garbage hence why i and many others have had to re engineer things.
As mentioned the shim keeps gears engaged tighter. Prior to shim install i had a gear disengage at 40-50 mph horrible noise and hrll of a mess. Then all you have is reverse. Anyways 2000 miles since shim install and no issues best andmost inexpensive thing ive done so far!

On the outer side ?

It was after the sight glass falling in on my 18 that I decided to arrange the shims this way. The one side of the fork puck melted off, but it isn't very thick. I thought to myself why would the gears not stay engaged even with that gone? So I assembled everything without the cover and noticed that the gear had more room to come to the right(when sitting on machine).
And I agree with Gman there is quality design lacking in the chain case. We all know that.

Gman, have you taken the chaincase apart after the 2k miles and see what the upper gear looks like? I now have 3800 miles on my replacement upper gear bushing. I checked it at 1800 miles and it was perfect. I will now check it again.

74nitro. You are incorrect! Gman is suggesting the extra shim he uses goes on the inside to push the gear outward.
So am I more-or-less, except I'm using the two stock shims on the inside with a thin shim on outside. Read my comments again.
