Just curious as to what others with '05's are getting for top speed on the dream meter. Even when mine was stock on the lake I had a reading one time of at least 124. RPM was between 10,200-10,400 tops. Now I have clutching and filters (Supertune kit) and the best I could get out of it on a lake this weekend was 112. As far as conditions it was colder than he!! this weekend and I think sleds run best in this weather. I can say bottom end and mid range are day and night difference (for the better) now. RPMs are out of the hole 10,300-10,400 and top end usually 10,500 and once 10,600. It sure feels fast, but dream meter says different top end wise. The only other thing I can think of is my weight has increased by maybe 10#. Other than that what gives?

Conditions make a big difference.I see 126 dm on ice studded.I have filters also on a 05.Hard pack depending on conditions, temprature ,wind,I see from 104 to 116

On hard pack I can see 125 on the DM with clutch mods and air kit 10500 RPM. When stock only 115 on DM and 9800 rpm. If you are only getting 112 after the supertuner kit you may have some other problems. Ie bad gas, warn belt, out of sync. ect ect ect..

Yamatuck, you are comparing an '03 to an '05. I happen to believe that the '03's had a higher top end than the '05's. the '05's pulled harder out of the hole, but I think the '03 has longer legs.

because of the 1.25 ripsaw vs the conical 1"?

Yeah, that and the Monoshock vs ProAction skid.

I have an 05 shorty. 192 studs, slp wear pads and a rear heat exchanger. No clutch or engine mods-yet.Had the sled on a lake 2 weeks ago. There was about 4" of packed powder on the ice and the temp was right around zero degrees. Ran several runs 117 on speedo 10'400 on tach. Then my son tried it and had exactly the same results. Heres the kicker. I outweigh him by 65 puonds. This leads me to believe that weight does'nt really matter that much to these engines.

Does everyone really think the mono is slower than the original "slow-action"?

I got 132mph DM on ice with a bit of snow - not glare ice! (Filters, stock exhaust) Then I just got 129mph DM on a hard pack road (Filters, Hauck GHT-R-DUN exhaust). Hard to tell if exhaust helped - but I would say it has on top end! My sled is an 05 with rip saw(I really don't see a handicap on the track speed wise! - In fact not any 03 or 04's can keep up in the hole and few can on the top! In the trails 03's and 04's are handicapped I feel because of the track itself! On the top the Ripsaw (staggered paddle) pumps a lot less air than a full block design - so it really does not cost you any speed losses!
(Small trick - use ski-doo wheels to replace the inside set and select 5.375" diameter) - Now go kick some butt!!

Last Saturday I had my 05 up to 198 kph twice on crunchy hard pack (lots of rain recently and then a flash freeze). I couldn't quite break that 200 kph barrier...
198 kph works out to 124 mph (on the dream meter)
On an icy lake with a bit of a crunchy surface and pockets of wind swept loose snow the highest speed it could muster was 190 kph (119).
198 kph was the fastest it's run ever. Highest top speed before was 194 kph and typically these days 170-180 kph is all it will do on hard pack (last season tyically 165-175).

Weight only matters in exceleration runs of the short kind, like 660 and 1,000 ft. if you guys are running top speed on very hard snow or ice weight is of little value, but drag is of great value, like sliders melting and sled sitting up high, not tied down,a person of large stature,in other words,if you can tuck in behind any part of the sled and be a stealthy as possible you are way ahead of the other guy who just sits up high and has his sled set up to trail ride.snugmat said:I have an 05 shorty. 192 studs, slp wear pads and a rear heat exchanger. I can verify for you that 117 on the speedo is about 101 - 102 in reality. 114 on my speedo is 99.6 on my GPS.

I completley agree with you there. I am 6'4" tall, and I do have a hard time getting out of the wind on the thing, and I am completely stock and cannot break 100 MPH on mine on the GPS. However, My Dad's '03 is also completley stock and is faster on top and he is also a large man with an even smaller windshield to tuck behind.

That's still only about 108 REAL MPH.

speed
The one time I did take my GPS with me on the lake was also when it was stock (might have had the oso primary spring, though) it read 104 MPH. I haven't had it with me with the upgrades. One other question. I had backfiring issues after installing the kit and ended up unplugging the TORS (actually unplugged and plugged the wires into themselves.) It has only backfired once since (when I hit the kill switch on accident while riding.) Does unplugging the TORS affect the performance of the sled or speed? I believe my RPMs (10, 300 out of the hole, 10,500 top) are good, so why isn't my speed there?
