Trade in value?

I couldn't keep up with my friends on a lake in New York on my XTX. He smoked me but I'm looking at lighter sled without losing power. Like them both though

Sounds like some people will be buying 800 Polaris axys' soon.

If I was in the position to buy a new sled it would be a switch back 8. Maybe next year.

What were your friends riding? It has nothing to do with weight! 50 lbs is not going to make a diff if it did I would go on a diet :o|

The Viper is a 600 class sled at best and then the XTX is geared lower With more track, taller paddles and less boagies putting it more in the 500 class with a wicked low end launch but will never run with them at top end untill you add that turbo!!!!!

Once you do that noone will touch you and you will have to have surgery in the off season to remove the permanent smile from your face

I'd give them another year of testing to make sure there is no issues. Poo and motors haven't went together since fuji. LOL
As for Viper trade-in prices..what did you expect with a step-child? It is still a three year old chassis, it is apparent that cats issues and others follow this model as well. There are other models in this chassis that are an easier sell. The market still doesn't want a heavier sled. Yamahas market is small and their used market is smaller. Until Yamaha develops a chassis motor combo to weigh in equal to the two stroke competition they will be considered heavy pigs. On top of this with Yamaha not developing their own chassis and sharing parts with Cat has created a terrible instablity with Yamaha being the gamble. Chris Reid will be retired, as he has announced on his Yamablog, by the end of the "5 Year Plan". This also adds to my theory of see ya later Yammi. There is no need for a sled blog when you don't sell sleds. I've riden Yamaha for 30+ yrs and I know when I'm being duped. Its funny reading about guys on Vipers beating Cats LMFAO

These guys beat more than a few cats, untill a rock destroyed the front end. Cainsquest

back to the guy complaning about resale. those are not original yamaha sleds.your basically trading in a cat, thats the difference in your retail.

I've got 2 yrs of warranty left......I'll worry about it then.

Despite my initial chain case issue I absolutely love this machine.

You should see my possible return on investment :o|

On top of buying the sled, evol shocks, 4th wheel kit, Simmons skis and 4- 8" carbides , tunnel flares, large tunnel bag, handguards, studs, adding MPI turbo, overdrive sheaves, race can, AFR gauge, boost gauge - then blowing up, then rebuilding with carillo rods, wiseco pistons, valves and head work, new block and gasket set, upgraded waste gate, upgraded fuel pump, turbo boost switch, tether, re-clutching (new heavy arms) for 9#'s of boost not to mention 5 trips to the installer 120 miles each way (1200 miles of trailering thats more than on the sled odometer)

Would I do it different??????? not a chance - I do have WAAAAAAY to much money in it but now it is everything I wanted

Well good luck to you guys with your decisions. Really do like this engine, but tired of building/fixing everything around it.

What kind of stuff did you have to fix?

I'd be curious to hear how that 800 Etec running as it crosses 3500 miles. From what I've heard, once the break in is completed the fuse is lit...

That and power valves coking up with carbon and sticking largely due to the excessive oil consumption.

that is a new one to me. the 2012 800 etec in our group doesnt use much oil at all. i was at our local ski doo dealer and he hasnt had any problems with power valves for years

All I can say right now is that my buddy has had all xrs's since 2010 and beat the living poop out of them without any major issues, and the ones he had brp took care of him really fast and we never skipped a trip because of doo, but yamahas on the other hand has ruined a few trips for us, yes they where not engine issues but nothing worse than a ruined trip!

At the end of the day, they all break or have certain problems. Sometimes I get better Fula mileage the the other 800's and sometimes I don't. Either way this is not a cheap sport. And we will never be happy!
I always want the latest and greatest sleds and have been through several. Something about the 1049 that I love! Yes I have to put extra money in them to compete with 800's, but at the end of the day, the Yamaha always gets me home. Except one time. With the oil separator. I want to keep my Viper??? I would like to try one of those new Switchbacks though. And I have already ordered one. Should be fun. And they also have a bumper to bumper 4 year warranty. So with no mods this should be a great fun sled!
