I have simmons on my '03 and am wanting to put on the late model 7" mountain skis. Anybody wanna trade straight-across? Also....I heard the mountain skis aren't worth a crap on trails. Is this true?

I've run both, obviously the Simmons are better on the trail but the mtn skis aren't bad. They do dart some but I feel they are better in the powder. Where do we compromise?

I saw some skis this weekend at the Cooke City Sinclair that look like they should be the best of both worlds. They have a wearbar at each edge like the simmons along with one down the middle. They are 2" wider than the simmons and 2lbs lighter per ski for a 4lb weight savings over simmons.
I have done a search for them and can't find a web site. The company that makes them is PPD Industies in Canada.

I think they are called "Slydog" skis. There's a link to their site on snowest.

I have 4000 miles on simmons on my RX1 and my kid convinced me to try powder pros. I was reluctant because my simmons have gotten me anywhere I want to go and they rail on the trail. I just put 40 miles of hard boondocking on the P.P. and I think they are a marked improvement over simmons. They sidehill easier, and more predictably. The simmons would keep carving back up the hill and presented a wider footprint that made it a bit tougher to get the sled up on its edge. They have more bite while turning in deep stuff. The simmons would tend to push. They seemed to have enough float. The trail up to the hills had 6 inches of fresh snow and was bumpy as heck so I can't attest to any darting.

Frosty, actually these skis are made by a company called PPD from Canada. They are called X-TR skis or something like that. I e-mailed the Cooke City Sinclair to get some more info on them. I do know the price was $375 for the set with all mounting hardware. Had the Sinclair had a red/black set instead of green/black, I would have bought them.

For those reading this thread, PPD Industries is freaking huge and they make the plastic skis, idlers, drivers, rail caps, torsion spring adjuster blocks, spring perches and sometimes hyfax for all four OEM snowmobile manufacturers.
If you're buying anything made by PPD, chances are it's a quality product.

I broke down and bought some PPD X-MT skis. Some place on here (one of my posts) there are pictures of them. I should be getting out this weekend for a second ride with them. First ride the snow conditions were a little too sketchy to get a good idea of how they will perform.
