Lets say I trade my sidewinder in on a new sidewinder in a couple of years , can I simply swap my current ecu into my new sled with my installed flashes or do I have to purchase flashes again

you can swap ecu from a 2017 to a 2018. No crystal ball to predict what ecu 2019 and later sleds will have.

Sure, but VINs wont match. I just sold my stage 2 ECU from my 1200 4tec, and he swapped me back his stock ECU. We got NO check engine light nor any code.....so all was good. But I would guess if plugged into BUDDS it would say something about VIN.
The physical swap is not very hard, as many of us were doing this last season before the flasher was ready.
