ECU interchange

I am really thinking resale/trade. I can resell the sled as stock and offer the flashed ECU/muffler clutching separately to the buyer or to someone else. Some people like to buy used units as stock. Some dealers REALLY don't want to take a unit in trade with performance parts installed. Some don't care. I would have both.
The ECU's are cheap.

I agree....but when i trade/sell....I will take the stock ECU from new sled and put into my old sled to sell/trade. Then KEEP my tuned ECU so Im not buying all the go fast stuff all over again. Even tho I own the flasher, i'd still have to re-purchase the flashes.

Buyer would be made aware of the swap and miles will be correct on cluster.

Another factor is the VIN# it's in the ecu. I know it is because when sled is hooked up to dealer diagnostic tool the vin of the sled along with model and even the color of sled comes up as a little picture on screen. I believe with a new ecu this wouldn't show until first time it's hooked up at dealer. Then vin would have to be entered in order to do anything since all communications with sled are 4 party. Sled,Internet,Yamaha and Tech.

Very true....the VINs might have issues....

With my 1200doo....I swapped ECUs when I sold my flashed ECU to a guy, and he gave me his stock ECU for mine before i traded it in. We wondered about VINs and any other issues....but NOTHING showed up, both sleds fired up and ran flawlessly without any hints of swapped ecu. So who knows until its actually done what comes up.

I have a bad shoulder....needs total replacement...thought i was done for a while , then they did some injections which made a world of difference...so now I could be on a 19' srx since Im 95% a trail and lake guy...

Shouldn’t be any issues with the VIN. My understanding is the VIN can be changed in the ecu. My sled is a 17, previous owner traded in for 18 and kept his flashed ECU. I have his 18 ecu. Vin matches. Dealer said he can change the vin with gaps flasher

I switched out my new 18 ECU and instrument cluster before ever riding the sled with another new ECU and cluster because I planned on flashing right away and wanted to be able to go back to stock if I wanted. With the new ECU I had bought installed,the sled would start up and run fine but would give a U1000 code that needed a PIN # from the dealer put in to get rid of the code.If you didn’t get rid of the code the sled will quit running after 100 miles . Took a little while to figure out the code from the dealer because Yamaha usually doesn’t use a code but between the dealer and me we figured out the pin and got rid of the code. Now both ECU’s would now work on the sled with no codes but when I went to try and add tunes to the new ECU it wouldn’t recognize the flasher. I had to send both ECU’s to Dave and he was able to get it to accept the flasher and tunes. Both ECU’s work now, one is the complete stock and the other has jukebox. Way more hassle than I planned on and you couldn’t buy an ECU for $367 last year either.

Yes he can but to do it he has to go through Yamaha. What I am saying is Yamaha can see actively what is going on when the tool is connected since its internet based. They probably wont ever see anything but they could and its a extra step a new owner has to go through. Not all dealers are as accommodating.

Also be careful about getting a Cat Ecu. Looks the same but they have the PDI code enabled. Without that code the sled will go into limp mode in 30mi or something like that. The code should be with the Original owners paperwork. Yamaha its not enabled and anything can be entered.
