Bought a set of Tuner ski's to put on my 2007 Attak. I bought them from a guy who had them on another Apex. I believe he went with the Tuner 3 ski now. Anyway after I installed the ski the front dips down when the ski is off the ground. The stock ski stays level. I tried my mount and the mount the seller provided. Is this normal with the Tuner ski's? Can I do anything to correct this? (See picture)

I'd bet those Tuners were off a Viper and not an Apex. The location of the hole for the ski bolt is higher on the Viper Tuner ski than on the Apex style - this makes the ski rubber not fit properly as it will be way to loose. Unfortunately this is a common problem when buying used as most sellers/buyers think all Tuners skis are the same and it takes a very trained eye to tell the difference. Also to note Tuner 3s only work on Viper/Sidewinder models due to the location of the bolt hole as well - I suppose one could try to make a shim for under the rubber to take up the extra room....

Thanks Kevin,
I came across your post here: https://ty4stroke.com/threads/new-tuner-skis-not-really-any-improvement.128795/ before I even bought the ski's. The seller sent me a picture of what looks like 5.3" wide with a .82" keel.
I just measured the ski's I took home and they look like 1 inch keel. He had 3 sets so maybe he gave me different set than he measured? I assumed he got them off his 14+ Apex's as the two he had in the garage had what looked like tuner 3 ski's.

Could be the same ski in both pictures. Might just be a bad angle. Going to grab my neighbors viper tuners AGAIN and take some measurements.

vipermike: I had the tuners on an Apex, although it was 15, and they were downright dangerous in my opinion, couldn't get them off fast enough.
Now some guys are getting snowtracker carbides for the tuners and having better luck.
Others have commented on this, and on my 08LTX I did the same, for the best set up for your sled would be the stock skis with Agressive snow trackers, it will make the sled rail and feel like you have power steering.
The first thing I took off my Sidewinder were the Tuner skis.

The reason for the Tuners is because I wanted to put the Apex skis on my Venture to replace the old metal skis. I found a set of tuners and carbides at Haydays for $30. I later found out that they were the 6 inch wide version and the mount area was milled down to fit on a Viper I believe. I installed the on the sled but they were loose and front dipped down.
Bought another set from a local guy that he used on his 12 Apex. These were the 5.3 inch wide ones but the front also dips down when installed. I believe they are from a Viper.
I don't think I should ride with skis that don't stay level.

- Unfortunately I'd advise against this swap as well as the mounting location on those old steel skis is about 1.5-2" higher than the Apex style ski - what will happen with the apex skis in place of the old steel ones is that the front of the sled will sit much lower affecting handling and the skis when the tips are down will hit the trailing arm on the backside creating an unsafe situation if turning say coming over a snowbank as the ski will contact the trailing arm. Yamaha did run the plastic Apex type skis on the later VMAX Deluxe and SX Viper trailing arm sleds but they used a taller spindle and trailing arm to correct that issue. The reason for the Tuners is because I wanted to put the Apex skis on my Venture to replace the old metal skis.

Thanks Kevin.
The tuner skis are most definitely Viper tuners they look and measured exactly the same as the ones my neighbor took off his Viper for C&A's.
Any ski upgrades I can do to the Venture?

actually, try the viper tuners on the venture. they might be tall enough to work. i run a set of 2014 viper skis on an old pogo enticer and they fit and cleared great on it. had a set of saddled rx1 skis on it with the mod from the 2 stroke side until i bent a saddle. the viper skis went on a lot easyer than those rx ones did.

Since Kevin mentioned the SX Viper trailing arm sled used a plastic ski and taller spindle contact Travis at BOP and see if he has a set of spindles and skis from a SX Viper or Venom. Thanks Kevin.

I tried reversing the Apex rubber. Also tried using the rubber from the Viper but it was completely different. The viper tuner ski fits on the apex but it is loose and the tips dip down because of the mounting hole.

FYI. i seen some mount the tuners on a trailing arm vmax chassis. you just need to trim the back of the ski because they will hit the trailing arm

my curves do this on the phazer and did it on my apex xtx. what i did to fix it was add a layer of 3/8-1/2" rubber into the pocket of the ski to make the rubbers work correctly and i added to rear of the ski rubbers to make the skis go tip up in the air when i have the sled on the lift.
