Need someone to set me straight. I have a 121" shortie and looking at possibly going 136 or 144. A long time ago port was advertising rear heat exchangers a 121"/144" was the same part number and a 136"/144"+ as another. Mine currently has the little rear exchanger and I want to run one no matter what.
When you do a extension what heat exchanger do you use and I will be running studs so do you have to protect them? Right now there is no protection and I never hit it, even bottoming out with the ZX2 (previous sled but same clearance as apex). I see some guys trim the rear tunnel part with the ZX2 but the crossover pipe hadn't moved it was in the same spot as a 121" but he was running a 144"? So when you add a extension I assumed the cooler just moved out back farther is that not the case? It looks like on the 136" model cooler it lays behind the stock pipe location and the hose connections are unchanged, what about a little heat exchanger on a 144"?
This will probably make total sense when someone corrects me. Thanks!

The biggest thing is when you go to an aftermarket tunnel extension it changes everything clearance wise because most aftermarket tunnel extensions for 136/144 sit on top of the tunnel rather than butt up underneath the 121" tunnel like the OEM Attak/LTX model tunnel extension. To use the OEM 136" heat exchanger takes a little finesse and patience. Here's a thread on what I did.

AS soon as i know how to put up pics i will. I took a rtx out to a 144 by relocating the skid i use the stock rear excharge and found some long cool tubes and clamp them on

My RX1 has a Mountain Performance tunnel extension. I followed what srxspec did with the mountain exchanger and it turned out great. I built protectors but really never needed them as the exchanger sits up in the extension and I don't think it could possibly hit. My track or studs have never touched my exchanger once. It's a great way to install it and you really don't need the extra protection.

not to take the post or anything but when extending to 144" is a rear heat exchanger really needed? On my 07 apex 121" I never had any issues overheating. I didnt think I would need to do this when I went 144". I havent road mine since then either. Ideas?

No extension length doesn't impact your sleds cooling, I ride in crap because we get marginal snow at best so sometimes I may need to go down a mile of gravel road with no snow! At that point just the air keeps the sled cool.
So to summarize guys anything longer then a 121" and you should be using the larger 136" heat exchanger?
