Two Way Communicator Systems

Thanks to all that responded. I ordered 4 units for me, my brother, and two friends. I ordered 3 sno phones with the DMS for the modular and one platinum with the DMS. I look forward to trying these out this year. I thought we got a pretty good price too, $180 for the sno phone DMS and $220 for the platinum DMS (both tax included). Thanks again.

Throat mic is the only way to go. Noise doesn't matter with them! They work awesome!

Throat mics do have some major limitations. The first is that the ear pieces are a pain to put on when sliding your helmet on and not that comfortable. Second they are not loud enough with a sled with pipes on. Third they require FMRS 2 way radios which don't really have good range on a sled with them in your coat pocket. They get interference from the sled's coils and have to go thru your body to send and receive.

I have firefox throat mics with the dual ear pieces and with my 5 mile range radios was only getting 500 yards of reception. I now have 15 mile radios and will report back if they are better. I have not tried the others, but this is not the greatest solution either.

We use them with the new Garmin Rino 14 mile range radio/gps's and they work great. We have speakers in our helmets and we run the cord down our sleeve and velcro the PTT button on the side of our finger so you can push it while riding to communicate. Best thing about them is you can see where all your buddies are located on the gps screen. Between gps'ing them and the radio's, we pretty much always know where each others at all the time.

So what radios are you using that has a 15 mile range? What frequency do they operate on? How much transmitter output?
