ulmer clutch kit question

Ok. As I said earlyer I havent studied the phazer's secondary. But what I have read is that some are saying that the secondary from v-max4 800 would fit on the phazer. Maybe thats wrong..?

But one thing for sure is that a secondary from a v-max 600 would not fit the v-max 800.

Pretty sure you'll need a longer bolt and extra spacer to make it fit. (I did the same upgrade to my '93 Exciter, with a 96 VX 600 secondary)

Yep, requires a longer bolt & extra spacer as well.

From vmax4.com about this issue:

"The 95-96 500/600 secondarys have the correct jackshaft spline, and then you have to machine the stationary sheave to let the sheaves close closer together. The only difference between the 500/600 and the 800 clutch is that the 800 clutch is cut from the factory to close together more"

I'v been thinking on this and I dont think its right.. I am 99% sure that the v-max 4 had a completely different spline than the 5 and 600's

sniperviper, What track do you have on your Phazer?
I want the ulmer clutch kit but i have a freeride track on mine.

So what you are trying to say, you CAN cut out the splines on any given yammie secondary and make it fit, BUT you need a longer bolt and extra spacer? The shaft is the same, I have checked this myself. The splines are just to long. (this if from a 98 SRX Secondary)

Stock track on mine. But I dont think this ulmer kit is a "very hard" set up so I belive this could work with that freeride track.

I havent studied the phazer secondary. What I ment was that a secondary from a 5-600 vmax would not fit on a v-max4 800. Reading that some says you need a vx800 secondary to make it fit on the phazer and then other saying it will be ok with one from a 5 or 600 vx I know one og them wont fit. These secondary's are not the same.

Not sure about those old secondarys, but what was the difference? was it thikness of the driveshaft? or the splines had differen 'pattern'? or did the splines just have different length?

Its so many years since I had that v-max4 that I cant be 100% sure but I think that the splines was different/shaft thiker.

a look inside the cover (not my sled)

The Vmax-4 clutch was cut to close further because it ran a narrower width belt.

For anyone who was wondering, the 1995 Vmax 600 clutch bolted right on and worked fine after getting the longer spacer and bolt. Sorry I didn't grab a picture.
