Is the headlight housing for the Viper the same as the Cat 7000? If so, the 2017 cat part number is 0609-967 and it's cheaper at 93.28 at partspitstop.

No it is not the same. Cat's is a bit different design.
My 17 with the HID's are spot on like putz21 said, high or low. Never made any adjustment from factory setting. Wife's 16 with newly installed HID's are adjusted for low only as high is in trees. But they are so bright never switch to high anyway.
A quick travel limiter mod is all that you need to keep the high beams from pointing skyward. The bulbs just pull in too far for the housing reflectors. Rock has been doing this on his kits for the past year or so from what I understand.

I heard that Rock has updated his HIDs to help correct the High Beam issue. I bought mine in '14 so I didn't have the update from Rock so I just went ahead an ordered the new headlight housing. Either option should work great whether they are Rock's updated HIDs or the new housing.

Please fill me in on this travel limiter mod. I don't ride at night enough to justify an hid kit, but when I do (maybe 5 times a year) I've already given up on the high beams.A quick travel limiter mod is all that you need to keep the high beams from pointing skyward. I had originally bought the '17 Cat housing, not knowing how different it looked at the front compared to the Viper Housing. Different look I didn't like so I purchased the '17 Viper once it came off of back order.

I just got home from a great trip in Ishpeming with smooth trails and great snow. I have the rox led kit in my sled and sent them in this summer to have the update fix for the high low beam gap problem to be fixed. well it didnt work out so well. lows still to low brights still to high. I had meyer yamaha install a 2017 headlight housing in sled and took the led kit out and returned it back to stock bulbs. not perfect but much better than before. i could at least see where I was going. long story short the best set up I have found for general trail riding is stock bulbs with 2017 head light housing. So long story short save your hard earned money and just upgrade the headlight housing. nothing worse than being 75 miles from hotel in dark and not being able to see the trail!Visually, I cannot see any difference with my eyes. I've read that they have moved the high beam pattern down by 5 degrees. Just got back from another ride tonight. Absolutely love it now.

Put a set of Rock's HIDs in the 2017 Housing and you won't be disappointed!

My 2014 headlight with the Roc HIDs are sweet on low beam, shining for coons on high beam. After some research, this is what I found as far as different part numbers & prices go. Hmmmm!
2014 headlight Assy: 8jp-h4310-00-00 $201.56
2017 headlight Assy: 8jp-h4310-10-00 $112.07
