I think the only major change in the rear skid between the 07 model and the rest is that clever little billet coupling link. The stock 07 link was a welded steel piece with a bunch of lightening holes in it. They were thin and poorly reinforced and often cracked under stress. For 2008, Yamaha replaced this part with a billet aluminum piece with zerks. All other parts of the rear skid are identical to my knowledge.

I did some more digging and the picture I posted is indeed the newer one. Not only is the coupling link different, the arms themselves have quite a bit of reinforcement on them.
