I know that some may feel this has been beat to death, but I have researched many posts and still am not 100% sure what I should buy. I have looked at several turbo kits recently and would like some positive/negative feedback on some of the older kits out there for sale(ie Bender, MCX, CPR etc).
1. I want to run on premium pump gas only, would look at head shim if necessary only
2. Riding conditions, primarily playing in the trees but a few tough hill climbs occasionally
3. Reliability - main interest, I don't mind working on the sled but only in the shop
4. I am not looking for TONS of extra power, just more (tired of boggin or running out of power on long pulls and deep snow)
5. Would prefer front mount?
I shouldn't have watched Veedys BOOST last night, it ROCKS!
RX-1 162", some lightweight (exhaust, seat, front end)

I had really good results with the Northeast Turbo kit on my Warrior.
If you stay at 7-8 psi you will be totally safe on premium pump fuel, as you go up in elevation you can run as much as 10 psi but Higher elevations only.
The double head gaskets will reduce off boost power that you will have to make up with boost but same result in the end.
The fuel and elevation is the limiter on boost level.

Good post. Not sure why people stack head gaskets on these things like Ted says...you are just going to make the sled feel less responsive. You will be able to run a bigger boost # for sure, but the end result is the same.
For trails, i'd stick with a rear mount, mostly because you don't want to sacrifice fuel capacity (unless you ride in a area where that is not a concern). Even on my long trail runs, I start out the day on a tank of AVGAS@11-12psi, and try to fill up near half a tank, and turn the boost down to 9, then turn it down to 6 or so on the last fill up. PLENTY safe.
Don't ride without wideband a/f tuning, no matter what ANYONE tells you. Personally, I won't drive a turbo vehicle hard without a wideband installed.

Ahh I forgot elevation! Typically at home here we are riding at 2000', but I don't ride a lot and with the long track no real WOT riding. We usually are at 4,500' - 8,000' and short pulls.

Did you by chance look into a SC? If your not wanting HUGE gains then maybe look there. 200 HP on pmp fuel is easyily doable, stealth quiet.etc...

In the used market I think turbos are far more common, I wouldn't be opposed to either it's just a budget thing. It seems Benders keep popping up and the odd MCX (front)and CPR as RX-1 guys buy Apexs.

Anyone know the differences between the Apex MPI Super Charger and RX-1. Will an Apex kit work on the RX-1???

I run CPR Turbo with low compression pistons & extra head gasket. The throttle respone & holeshot is great, I can run 91 canuck premium at 10 pounds boost on the trail very safely. 14 pounds boost for drag racing with a little VP thrown in works fantatstic.

No, different IC and fuel supply I believe.
