Please someone chime in here and tell me there is a company out there that sells a oil filter relocation kit!!! somewhere in the nose cone preferably. Taking this sled apart just to swap a filter is absolutely idiotic. Yamaha wtf were u thinking!!

There are kits to do that but I don't recommend it. http://www.benderracing.com/Oil_Filter_Relocator_Kit_p/ofrk.htm

The remote mounted filter takes it from a protected area and adds multiple possible failure points and interference with other components in order to place it in an exposed (the nose cone is as protective as a milk jug) area which used to be good storage. No thanks.
I recommend moving the voltage regulator to the inside of the front castings as well.

WOW...ruff crowd here...i have the Ulmer oil relocation kit that he use to offer and absolutely no issues with it being in the nose of my Apex, it was installed in 2006 after the first oil change and have no issues with the protect of the nose piece, unless you ram a stump which would damage alot more then the oil filter I would install then kit there, also with the nose pan removed it makes for a clean oil filter change...

Here is what I do. Follow the manual and replace the filter every 12,000 miles... of course I have 18,000 miles and have put in 3 filters so I did not follow to the letter but still not every 2500 mi oil change.
500mi filter 1... 7500 mi filter2...15,000 filter3......

You need to experience a donuts and Y pipes change, then you'll actually look forward to doing an oil filter change.

There is a step by step process in a sticky here. Not bad if you follow it.. you'll want to get down in there for your battery someday or to check wiring or relay issues.. so best to learn now.. if your worried wait until the end of the season for the filter change.. oh if the battery is old ..cheap enough to change it while doing the filter..

Luckly the battery was just changed before i bought it.....a month ago......so i dont have to worry about it. I just dont get why in the 13 plus years this sled has been available, yamaha hasnt bowed to publuc demand and put this relocation kit as OEM . Oh well. Im doing it asap. Wish i had a yamaha dealer in my city but i will use yamaha filters and i will be changing them every year no matter of kms. Learned along time ago that changing oil sooner then later is always good medicine.

Just to clarify my post....I change the oil every 2500 miles I just change the filter every 7,500 miles. I think the reason Yamaha has not changed anything is they recommend every 12,000 miles for the filter and for most people this is many seasons.... so why add the weight or cost?
