Last week end we were riring and we were going about 8o miles per hour and my vector rpm just quit for about 2 seconds and then came back to life. It did this three times. I checked the air box there was a little ice about the size of a quarter but I dont think this was the problem. What do you guys think?

It may be the gauge connection. I did have the gauge out before.
But would this cause the engine loose power?

The way I read your post was: You did not loose power to the engine. Just the gage. But, ... No problem.

If you lost power to the gage only, it would probably not kill the engine. But, if you had a loose connection to the ECU, then you could loose the gage and engine.

Did you just loose the Tach and the engine was still reving? Or did the engine stop running and the RPM dropped accordingly?

Did you loose all power to the gage?

Did you bump the Kill Switch, by any chance?

You may want to inspect wiring for chaffing. A short to an ECU input could kill the engine and then the engine would recover if the wire stopped shorting. But, there may be other less noticeable symptoms that could help pinpoint the problem, too, if we had more description, etc.

If it happens again, please take a moment to offer up more description of what happened and the conditions you were encountering, etc. Unfortunately, we'll probably have to wait a bit for some snow. Eh?

The gauge went dead and the engin rpm whent way down when I let off the gas about half way it cam back to life and the gauge worked again.
Thanks for your help

I would start by checking the connection to the ECU to make sure it is clean and solid. I would also check all the fuses to ensure they are all properly installed and making good connections. Don't forget the primary/master fuse, which is probably down by the battery (i.e. not with the other fuses in the fuse holder). The fuses and holder contacts may need cleaning. Your symptoms sound like an intermittent electrical problem.

For the ECU connection, you may want to clean it with contact cleaner and then make sure it is firmly connected.

Then, if I did not find a "smoking gun," I would start checking the wiring harness for chaffing, looking closely where the wires could contact metal. The wiring insulation could be rubbing through.

Thanks Len I will keep you posted! I will go over it this weekend and will let you no.

I take it your sled is a RS Vector. Moved to the RS General Talk forum where it belongs.
