Fuel injected Apex 162 is my first choise. You did not mention if this is his first sled or not. How much experience he has. If he has none just get a used Yamaha 700 mtn for him to learn on for a year and let him make all the stupid mistakes on a $3,000 sled. Who knows may be next year will bring a turbo, or a left over apex for lots less $$

mine and my brothers first sleds are the RX1's. two 10,000 dollar sleds to learn on, and i have gotten a hell of a lot better than i was the first day. i got used to it quickly. no need to get a beater sled before you get a real sled
