Need for Speed 2

can some of the guys with turboed 3cyls give us some feed back on how well they work fuel mileage and reliability especially with headers. do they hold up better than the 4cyls. i think the new engine will have alot in comparisons to the old. also i wonder if mc express will be the first out of the gate with turbo kits as always. i also have to give mc credit when its released its usually ready for the consumers.

Love my mtn vector turbo , running alpine fr mount, the only thing is the fuel injection , the carbs work excellent you can run up to 17 lbs by just turning a valve , no electonics needed here, i understand on the apex 14 lbs safe after that you better get ready for alot of mucking around to run safly.I purchased a turn key sled from alpine and thats what it has been, i can run from 8lbs to 12 on prem and beyond by adding fuel, love the new nitro look, the phazer puts alump in my throat ,2000 miles & just oil changes.

What year vector do you have? is it an SE?
How much HP are you seeing, and do you have Rider Forward?
How does the sled perform all around?

My sled has been very reliable and gets great mileage (most of the time, depending on wether I'm breaking trail in deep snow). I average 12-14mpg. I ride in the mountains at 6000-ft+ and mostly boondock and hill climb. I did a lot of tuning (beyond the stock kit) to get my sled performing very well. Everyone I have talked to (including myself)that runs this sled has had a problem being too rich on the off idle circuit. The cure that we have done is to machine the top of the slide to allow you to adjust the needle height (the stock needle is nonadjustable, you use the mikuni nylon spacers for adjustment) This helped tremendously. It still isn't perfect but very rideable. I have clutched the sled so there is very little "turbo lag". It is not as powerful as the RX-1 (#/# boost) but it will out perform any custom two stroke that I have been around. I have done the rider forward mod to my sled and it made a world of difference in the comfort in riding standing up. I'm 6'4" tall and my riding weight is about 250#.

i have a very moded turbo vec.538lbs without fuel + i did a simons cpr stroker kit last fall & rx1s cannot keep up to me now unless they run alot more boost.spools very quik like a apex now.put the arp head studs & wiseco low comps too.run the alpine turbo have over 4000km know without probs other than a leaky head gasket.

I still have a light
Edit: no offense but #/# boost, a properly tuned RX1 will beat a Vector. The RX1 has more base hp therefore creating more hp when boosted.

Last Year I talked to Jeff at CPR and Dave from Pownderlites and both of them were very adamant to tell me that they have never had a header fail from a Vector! I believe a carbed Vector set up properly will spool faster than a carbed RX-1 because of it’s torque curve. It looks like the new Nitro has the same motor with the bores opened up 3mm, add fuel injection and a front mount turbo the thing will spool stupidly fast. I only have a 1000 miles on my Vector with a Powderlite turbo on it but not a glitch yet and I have had it over 20# of boost for a few days. As Woodsrider said the idle circuit is a little touchy I ride from 2400 to 8000 feet and it not a really a problem.

I love my vec. mt. se with alpine. The sled is a blast to ride. I ride from 8k and up and have had no probs. Once I figured out a little throttle management, my fuel mileage has been better than the 2-strokes I ride with for the most part. Oh and the rider forward is the next thing thats going to be done to this sled.

Vector turbo
We built a new turbo kit for Vector and run it this weekend at BIS and it was very respectable and running 15 lbs boost on pump gas. No race gas or laughing gas!
Needed suspenion work and some fine tunning, but was fast for first time out.

yes i would like to see the new kit too.
woodsrider no offence taken but my vector is not a stock motor anymore plus my vec is pretty light.have not found one that can keep up yet at equal boost they mite still be able to catch me on top end but have not raced it far,off the line it just pulls a rx1 by 3 sleds.jeffs kit works realy well.i raced rx1s at the big iron shoot out last year that were running more boost than me & i was keeping up till higher speeds then they would pull away.that was befor i did the stoker kit.
