Well I was up north this weekend riding and it was cold out, -13F to be exact. Well today the temperature did a 180 and the temperature was 34F and the viper didn't seem to like that! I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but with it being warm out the engine seemed to have a different noise when cruising around, the trails were so rough and slick with the packy snow I couldn't go any faster then 13-20mph. The engine temps were getting up there so I would stop every once and a while and let it cool down. In the end I ended up coming home early. Have you guys noticed your engine sounds different when the temps are warmer outside?

Only when I stopped and let it idle for a minute or two did the temp go above 170 degrees

I was in muskoka today and yesterday. Today was around +1c, yesterday the sled ran better yes but by no means was it running bad today at +1c. Is it possible you were running roads with low snow and maybe overheating an d the sled went into limp mode ?

I didn't see any codes or engine lights, the engine temps were around 85 when I was riding today, couldn't get to much speed since I had a passenger and the trails were rough. But just putting around the engine seemed to have a different tone to it compared to when it was cold, but if I got onto the throttle it sounded good, maybe it didn't like being driven around at such low speeds haha. I was riding around the south river area, but left once it started to drizzle.
Mine doesnt start as well when its warm out. Still starts but cranks a bit. -10F it start almost instantly almost like a explosion. Just a observation I can live with it.
Yamaha 06 I bet you were hearing those stupid little bumps on track. Is very noticable if trails are setup.

I was lining up track today in my garage running sled for a bit about plus 1 c and the sled was sputtering and running like crape temp light came on pretty fast. I have a feeling they get warm real quicke without proper conditions. I hope its not this sensitive on trail around 0 c.It was running a while though.
I have never seen temp light except the startup warning. Was your fan running? That fan and radiator is bigger than many cars!

Yes it was I can hear it even when I shut it down ,I hope I was just running it to long. I just find it kind of odd it it came on and started sputtering , starting was odd after that too. Kinda nervous goin on a trip this weekend will see what happens. Father in law bought new vector and his is not doing well either.

Is it possible that you cracked your helmet open while riding in warmer temps? Our wore a thinner balaclava?

Was in my garage today fiddling with the sled and had trouble getting it started once. Had to crank it 4 times and the last time I gave it a shot of fuel to get it running. Is this the dreaded hot start issue????
Started it a couple times after and it didn't start as usual and was not running like when outside.
At the cabin in -20 it started and ran perfect every time.
This sled could be like myself...likes the cold and snow better then warm weather. Lol!!

Ran last spring in temps as high as 8-10C with no problems on hard packed trails, if you can keep speeds up a bit the rad seems to handle it .

In mid November we took a ride on about 2 foot of new wet heavy snow and the temperature was 35F to 40F. The sleds got a serious workout in that heavy snow and never had overheated issues. No hot starting issues either. Matter of fact they didn't miss a beat all day. However we did have driver overheating issues

One thing I did notice with the sled was that sometimes the temp would creep up pretty fast to about 92-94 degrees C and the fan cut in. This was with good conditions but I was just riding a bit slower at a constant speed. When I noticed the temp was higher I just cracked the flipper for literally a couple seconds and the temp dropped like a stone back to 71-74.

Ya I don't know, the engine sounded different on all the surfaces I drove on, wore the same helmet. It's hard to explain how it sounded, I should of took a video clip. I will get it on the snowmobile stand and run it to see if it sounds any different then it did yesterday.
