Ok is it possible to change the bearing in the stock hub or when the bearing are dead you have to throw the hub in the garbage and buy a new one
Not sure on the current hubs but the 2014 were thro away hubs.
can change 15 and newer bearings. The problem is the bearings are so small and can not handle the job after a few thousand miles.

Larson all the way. Solid axle locked into the skit rails so it cant twist, replaceable over sized bearings. SnoX racers cant all be wrong.

Thanks for all of replies. Lot's of good information, I appreciate it.
What's the consensus on using wheels on the outside of the rails on the rear axle? Are they needed or just replace the stock tri-hub with a better after market kit between the rails?
I'm not planning on studding the new Sidewinder but plan on replacing the stock 1.25" lug track with a 1.5" lug.

It makes it more durable with 4 wheels for sure. They will make the trihub last longer but it still is better to replace it to prevent future problems. If there is a problem with the hub on a big trip of off trail you will be kicking your own #*$&@ for not fixing it right. on the sidewinder I would have outside wheels as the first thing I bought for it. With stud you will now have down force on the outside studs at the rear wheels. Thanks for all of replies. Lot's of good information, I appreciate it.

Plus I think for trail riding it helps you corner flatter be keep the track flatter.

Hello saber cat... i tryed emailing u... but.my question is... i just came off a 1200 doo to a 2015 viper ltx with 600km... the wifes viper she rode last year is a 2014 ltx with 2500km on it now... both have the yamaha 4th wheel kits.... i just put h.i.d's in them ..and tryin to not spend alot into them this year as i m finishing a new house...do u think i ll be able to get away with riding them like this for 3-3500km this winter with no issue's... and i ll order your kit next year..i m in canada so for 2 kits plus duty etc..i d rather wait till next year if u think these ones will hold up...thxs coryBe careful with those composite wheels you have there. They can break and cause track damage. Studs will wear them in a few years and the tread part of the wheels will get holes in it because there is a hollow channel inside of the wheel. J&T and Turbo Dynamics quit selling them because of those problems. TD will sell you them if you ask but will recommend that they only be used for drag racing.

Bot, unless you ride in a rock quarry you should be alright with the 4th wheel kit from Yamaha. I have a 2015 with an AC 4th wheel kit and I'm going to run it this year, the sled has 1,200 miles on it. Hopefully I can put on 2,000 miles on this year. Regardless of mileage I will be buying a JT kit after this season is complete. If you have a lower mileage sled with a Yamaha 4th wheel kit you should be good. Ride them this year, put the JT kit in next year. Take a look at the tri hub every so often this year to make sure it looks good, and you'll be fine.

Its not if the hub will fail, rather when it fails you will more than likely wish you had not waited? Good luck, no one really knows when the Tri-Hub will fail. Myself, I ride early mornings alone. Didn't want to worry about it. I'm also running studs down the middle, 4-wheel kit seems to run a little smoother than my Tri-Hub did although I can't be sure on that.Right on ..thxs man.. ya all my riding is 250 - 300km a day trail rides ... my 2015 only has 600km on it..and the wifes 2014 had 700km at begin of last year and 4th wheel kit was put on when i bought it for her at 700km..i usally unload them from enclosed trailer.. and put them in heated garage after every weeknd to let them thaw out and wax them...so i ll keep an eye on them..thxs

Does the 4th wheel kit help with longevity for the tri-hub, or is it only a fail-safe that lets you get home when the tri-hub fails? Are all tri-hubs "bad" and guaranteed to self-destruct, or is it just some of them that were made on a bad day? I bought a used XTX with about 7,000 miles on it, and as part of the deal I had the dealer replace the tri-hub. The dealership is pretty good sized, sells both Arctic Cats and Yamahas, and has been around for a very long time; they sell and service a pile of sleds every year. He looked at me like I was crazy, but agreed to do it; when the old tri-hub was taken out, he kept it to show me, and it was in perfect condition.
