Getting ready to check chain case, going to pull oil tank and I don't see a gasket listed in Go Yamaha part. Is this just silicone used to seal it up?

You don't have to take oil tank off chain case cover to change chain case oil. Just take chain case cover off and leave oil tank attached. Yes its silicone to seal oil tank to chain case cover.

The chain chase has a O-Ring style and is reused many times just keep the surfaces clean. Don't over tighen the oil tank or chain chase or the tabs will break easily. The oil tank uses yamabond if for some reason you need to take that apart and reseal but that is not needed for a basic engine oil and chain case servicing.

I wasn't a TY member the first time I did my own servicing and I split the oil tank from the chain case. Long story short RTV sealant works really well if you happen separate the tank and chain case. Don't like the way my dealer changes the oil, They drain the tank and then run the engine to pump out the sump instead of removing the engine drain bolt. Do all my own work now after seeing that method.

This is why I do anything possible to do my own work on all of my toys. This forum sure makes it easier to do that.

OMG! Who is that dealer? You sure?

It's the dealer where I bought mine and my wife's Vipers up here in Quebec. One of my co-workers bought a Viper there also and he says that is what the mechanic told him they do to save time. I'm not naming the dealer as I am not 100% sure of what My co worker says but it did take them 2 attempts to change my fuel sender to get the level indicator in the right position to get it to work right. Was told by that mechanic that he had a pitchers error working on my machine, not impressed when I had to make 2 visits to fix that, luckily their shop is beside the trail and I went for a trail ride both times for the warranty work.
