cmharcou said:I see all you guys buying vipers and such just because its the new thing. I'm one of those guys that just can't pay MSRP on a sled. Ive bought a few new sleds but always new left overs and save thousands. Just my opinion nothing more.
Well I bought a SX 700 when they came out, a SRX when they first came out, An RX-1 when they first came out, An Apex RTX when they first came out, a PRO R 800 121" when they first came out, Pro R 800 Switchback when they first came out, and now a Viper on release. I never paid MSRP for any of these sleds.
Without guys like us buying the latest and greatest there would be no more latest and greatest and those of you that wait and pick them up 2 or 3 yrs down the road would still be riding on pogo sticks.
Besides that I feel that I spend less money buying new and riding for a year or 2 and trading or selling them and getting another new one. I have had several that I kept longer while still buying a new one cause of the mods I did, but by putting about $2,000.00 down and financing the rest at a payment of $200 ish a month when I sell I always get back about $1,000.00 so a new sled costs me $1000.00 plus how ever many months of the $200 payments I made.
I have never had any uncovered (warranty) issues to pay for. I have never trailered 4 hrs to the UP or 18hrs out west for a multi day excursion and spent half the trip broke down on the trail or at the dealership waiting on repairs. That is the reason i stopped riding with the group of buddies I started out with. Every trip was with 6 to 8 guys on old stuff. Out of the gate clutches, electrical, tracks and suspensions would turn a 4 day trip into a total of 200 miles of riding because all I did was tow in downed sleds and trailer them to the dealers for repairs. Last season was the 1st time I ever had an issue in 15yrs of hard riding averaging over 8000 miles a yr for the 1st 10. I went to the UP for a 4 day ride, I went up a day earlier than the group and that night riding solo I popped a motor on the PRO R 800. 9 am I was at the dealership, dropped off the dead one and out the door with a new one by 9:30.
Once I got home I sold the one that blew with a new motor in it (under Warranty) for almost $1500 more than I owed on it.

good reply Yamadog
Exactly why I went with a new viper, after breaking down a couple of times last year and having my buddies tow me home was frustrating, not being able to ride while getting parts.

Just came from dealers open house. They are pissed off. Event was scheduled this late in order to be sure the Vipers would be there. If I had read Yamadogs post earlier my wallet might have been a little lighter when I left. Even so I'll bet good deals will be had in March and April.

Didnt want floats. Coilovers smoother ride
In perfect conditions springs r smoother. Floats can be tuned to perform like springs on a smooth trail. Springs will never be able to be tuned to compare to floats on a rough..that is for me atleast. 230lbs rider

Where is it that you have snow and rode already?
Both of you have no location in your profile

There is nothing a float can do that a properly valved and sprung coil over can do other than be lighter. Adjustability on the high end evols etc is great. Unfortunately float 3's do not have the adjustabiliy or volume that you need. Thats fine because the vast majority of riders don't have a clue about setting up a suspension anyway. The average consumer gets a cool air pump and they are tickled pink!
