4th wheel kit along with additional wheels on the skid..on my sled I was getting a decent amount of drag coming directly under the torsion springs and right on the front bend of the rails. I'm blaming both of those areas on stiff suspension. I added one set of wheels to the rails directly in front of my 4th wheel kit with the wheels mounted on the outside of the rails and then I added another set directly behind the existing stock wheels that are the last ones on the skid before the rear axle. If you look at the space between the rear axle and the next closest set of wheels, there is a lot of room there for the track to drag and also get a little bit of wave movement when at higher speeds. YamahaTim has a nice set of wheels he added to the front of his skid that I'm sure helped in that area. I'm sure he wouldn't mind chiming in on that and give you some more info there. Just for kicks for anyone that wants to try it, pump your front shocks up to about 90 psi and then turn your torsion springs to medium or hard. Mark out a spot decent in distance that you can really try to get some speed out of the sled. Do a few runs and keep track of your top speed. Now set your torsions to soft and lower the float pressure down to 60 pounds and run the same distance. You will be amazed at the difference in speed. The stiff suspension is a huge speed reducer on this chassis which is another reason I went with softer torsion springs. Put a set of the slippery DuPont slides on and that will help more yet..these aren't going to be huge changes to the sled if u only do 1 thing but with all that I've done to my sled I went from a 100mph sled on ice to a 105 mph sled on hard packed snow and the sled feels much more responsive at higher speeds as well. It may not have the pull from 70 mph and up that the apex does but it is a big improvement over the viper in totally stock form

IF anybody is looking for a couple sets of extra bogey wheels for the LTX pm me. I bought the 5.63" kits for my XTX and they are not going to work. I will make you a good deal.

I'm not positive but I think he did the same as me for the wheels. If not I put four wheels where the limiter straps go to. Two in the inside and two on the outside. Then another set in the back between my forth wheel kit and the last set of wheels on the inside of the skid. I have pictures in my post, but I don't know where that post is. If needed I can post them again. Just let me know. On the ski doo race. My Nytro with header PCV K&N filters and clutch kit DuPont hyfax, I would have not to much trouble with any pretty stock 800! If it was heavily modded then it would be a lot closer! But I have no worries with any 800!

I've been riding on my since 1997. I road with my dad when I was a little boy so I've been around sleds for 36 years. In the 36 years I learned one thing "no one loses a race". It doesn't matter what forum I go on everyone wins every race they run.

I've been beat by several different sleds since I've owned the viper, first one here to admit that. Just so happens I was able to beat 2 skidoo 800s in one night. Going riding again tomorrow with my switchback 800 and xrs 800 buddies..if it works out I'll try to get some videos of the results on that. I'm sure we will be lining them up again as the guy with the xrs just went out today and spent some more $ to try and gain some speed.

Wow your viper must be a freak of nature .. I ride with vipers, doos, poos, apexs and never yet have i seen a viper with few mods come even close to any of those sleds .. Maybe it will hang till about 40 or 50 mph thats about the best i seen them do.. I have a nytro with every mod i can do without a blower or turbo and i can bearly stay close to them ..And my sleds run pretty good usually...

Not saying my viper was faster top speed than the xrs or the switchback because when we did roll ons both 800s did get me by a sled length give or take a bit..the true speed bragging rights still go to the 800s on that one. Whenever I race anyone I don't some launches from a dead stop and then finish off with a roll on, because of how my viper is setup and how hard it launches, I can pretty much always beat any sled to 70-80 mph, just happened that I had enough of a jump on the Polaris and skidoo guys that they couldn't run me down. Then to make them feel good we do the roll ons so that they can atleast be reassured that even tho it would take them two miles to get past me, their sleds r still faster top speed lol. The simple things I've done as far as getting the chassis to roll freely have made the sled a completely different machine. Talk with some of the big speed guys running the procross cats, they'll tell you the same exact thing.

Next year we are having a TY bring your keyboard race winner or what ever you want to call it and see who really is fast... and maybe for once we can put this childish crap to bed and if you dont show you have lost your right to post. Thoughts? LOL
I am sure that most wont show but it may keep some of you quiet so the rest of us can enjoy our sleds without having to race it.

Have you run an apex of newer years, like a 13-14 longer xtx ape, some say they are slower than older ones others say faster, still on the fence about buying an xtx ape.Studroes144 said:4th wheel kit along with additional wheels on the skid..on my sled I was getting a decent amount of drag coming directly under the torsion springs and right on the front bend of the rails. Awesome idea Tom.
Can't wait for the thread where people get to voice their opinions on,track length, classes, allowed traction products, fuel controllers, race fuel etc.
Of course I'll want min. 1/2 mile track length, 1.17 " max height trail studs only, no race fuel, Yada, yada ,yada !!!!!
On second thought, it is never gonna happen because the keyboard racers will never agree on the RULEZ.

See edited post above.
I put in some suggestions to start the ball rolling.
Of course I am planning on racing stock with my MCX 290.
It came out of the Ulmer Factory the way it is now. No mods what so ever since then
LOL
