I just got a 509 helment and sinister goggles. Haven't worn it yet but should be going by this next weekend. I will write a review about that when I get some good seat time.

northerndoc said:I have all three- BV2S, Mod2 and motocross style open (Klim F4) w. goggles. They all have their place. Although I don't find myself using the Mod2 that much any more since I got the BV2S. If warm is what you want, then the BV2S is the ticket, but if you ride aggressively or are offtrail a lot, it'll be way too warm. I find I wear the Klim the most and just adjust what I wear under it to suit the conditions.
X whatever on the BV2S. Best I've ever used as far as warm and quiet. But as northerndock said, it's too warm for off trail or aggressive driving. I find that it fogs on warmer days from me sweating. I wish it had vents!

this new gmax is loaded with vents, hopefully that wont be a problem, I did find this to be a problem with my mod 2, the first mod I had the opposite problem, too breezy.
had to make alot of custom foam strips for that first year modular.
the modular 2 was alot tighter but now that I read everyones comments, I do remember it being a bit hot sometimes.

i just got mine went for a quick ride on it, you have to have a good balaclava that covers the whole face i find. i went and bought one today so i think it should be really warm for what it is and love the polarized lenses can see so much more!

I rode with a Gmax modular GM44 with electric shield last season and it was the best I've run.

I had the HJC headache too and added some electrical tape inside the visor just over the glass. This blocked the holes and extended to the helmet like a gasket and worked pretty good, but then the locking mechanism broke so I bought a CKX. It seems to be a better quality unit but I haven't used it yet so I don't know how warm it is.

I tried putting silicone on on the gasket to help it seal better ( I heard it worked for one of my friends friends) but it made no difference.. Still had snow on my face

I'm also using the Doo Modular2 with a sham wow insert. The shamwow is a lot more durable then the stock insert if you feel the need squeeze out the moisture. I can't remember the last time I had to do that though.
If you go with a Modular2, do yourself a favor and grease the snaps with some chapstick. I had heard about this trick and always forgot to try it out. My snaps were getting to the point that I was afraid I'd ruin them, they were sticking so bad. I added some chapstick, and they just glide on and off now.

So this weekend I was able to try out my new 509 helmet and siniser goggles. One word sums up the combo - Incredible. I put on 150 miles Sunday and always had a sore neck after that long of a ride and Sunday evening and Monday I felt great. The helmet is light and warm. We started off the morning and it was 1deg F. I used my warmer head sock and didn't get cold at all. After it warmed up to about 20deg F in the afternoon I went to my thin nylon headsock and still remained warm (actually just about perfect temperature). The goggles fit perfectly in the helmet and allowed little leakage. They didn't fog up once while riding either. They did fog up when we stopped at an intersection for a minute but after we started riding a little they cleared up almost instantly. I would recommend these to anyone thinking of going to an open face helmet. Also, the yellow polarized lenses help pick up the bumps and such in the snow so much better than clear lenses. They also worked well at night even with the yellow lenses. The only thing that took a little getting used to is all headlights oncoming are yellow now instead of their normal color.

I took a different route than others because I am stubborn. I have 2 ZR1 helmets, one with plain and one with a double shield. Both fogged badly.
I primarily use a Shark RSR2 Indy Patten with the yellow face shield and winter mouth/nose cover.
It is an amazingly light helmet with excellent ventilation. I do not get cold, do not get hot when riding harder. The face shield fits very tight so the ventilation is properly directed. It rarely fogs unless I forget to open to all the vents.
The biggest problem is cost. I found mine new on eBay for a major discount last year. It was off season for motorcycle helmets.
There are few accessories for this helmet other than the breath shield and colored face shield. No heated face shield available although I keep looking for the film that glues to the inside and plugs in.
Just my 2 cents. Good luck, there are many options but you do get what you pay for.

BRP had the black BV2S on sale for $99.00. This is a crazy deal. They must be clearing inventory. I ordered a bunch of them on the Ski-doo website. I saw it on Doo-talk late last night. They wont last at that price
