If I cant get my Viper sorted out I may join the 4 stroke ranks. I always planned on my next sled to be a 4 stroke but this may happen sooner than later.

What is everyones recommendations for the best 4 stroke to buy under $5,000?

I have found a 05" RX1 ER LE with only 470 miles for $4,500. This one has the cool flat black paint. Is this a better sled than say a 05 or 06 Rage or Vector for the same money?

Thanks, G.B.

05/06 rage or vector. mono skid in 06 has a better ride but a few more issues.

05 RX..hands down. The skid needs acouple of updates but it's FAR outweighed by the engine. The 120 is a great engine as far as it being reliable and great on gas...but...the 4 is nicer and has much more power. We own both...the 4cyl is without a doubt a nicer package. That is a smokin' deal on that 05 RX and with the price difference between the rx and vector you can put an Apex seat on the RX and you've got the best of both worlds (in terms of rider position and comfort).

Wow, thanks guys for all the quick feedback today. This is my first post on the 4 stroke side after being on the smoking side for a few years.

I would love to get into an Apex but I cant swing the extra money right now. Even if I could, the Apex's I have seen for sale around $6,000 have a bunch of miles on them. Ideally, I would like to find a 4 stroke with 2,500 or less miles on it if I make the move. I realize fewer miles does not guarante that it will be problem free.

How much heavier is an 05' RX1 vs. a 05/06 Vector or Rage? I am assuming the RX1 is a bit heavier. I also think I would want the Mono over the Pro action. But if I could find a great deal on an 05 Vector or Rage, then I could swap out the skid later for either a Mono or aftermarket.

Overall, which one of these sleds is going to be the best all around ride?

Thanks, G.B.

Gone Blue - you're still thinking like a 2 stroker!!! My buddy picked up a second Attak used with 4500 miles on it and it rips! 4 strokes have a lot more life to them than the 2's. His 2nd Attak actually has more punch than his lower mile one!!! Just broken in.... :4STroke:

I'd go with a Vector. The first year Vector had the pro-active rear skid and the better front end geometry than the RX-1. That said, you can probably pick up an RX-1 for cheap and mod it as money allows. Mostly depends on how you plan to ride the sled.

Weight difference is NEGLIGIBLE. Its under 10 pounds! Both engines are the same displacement, one has 4 cylinders, but they are smaller cylinders.

I can't tell you which one to buy, but you should pick the one by the amount of power you want. Do you want a 120 or a 140?

It does really depend on the rider. We ride alot of fast trails and lakes and the vector just doesn't do it for me (personally). If you use your Vipers power you may find yourself wanting for more on the vector which lacks the topend of the viper everything else will be a HUGE improvement on either sled.

apex ,
first scheduled maintanance ,
valve setting 25000 miles.

VECTOR hands down! I previously owned an 2003 Fire Cat (F5) and comparing the two suspensions, they pretty much mirror one another. I really enjoyed my F5 but the cost of oil and gas along with quality issues convinced me to go blue! My Vector is getting rediculous gas mileage (18-22 mpg) and the quality of this sled has been bullet proof. Once you have acclimated yourself to the weight difference, the sled is dream to drive. I have had absolutely no issues keeping up with any sled on the trails.

Get the RX-1!!!. That's a smokin' deal BTW.

I had an '05 RX-1 and traded it for an RS Venture (same 3-cyl 120 engine as the Vector/Rage). There is a HUGE difference in arm-stretching power. Night and day.

I REALLY miss the power pull of the RX-1.

I needed the longer track, and 2-up of the venture but never understood why the "bigger" sled comes with the "smaller" engine. What was Yami thinking?
