I have had 1 weekend ride so far for engine break-in on our new 2025 Sidewinder LTX LE. It has about 220 miles now. I know that the manual states to change the oil & filter after 500 miles. I am taking the sled on a trip to the U.P. with my fiancé next week and will likely put on another 350-500 miles on that trip. Wondering if I should change the oil now or wait until after that trip?
If you guys recommend that I do it now, should I stick with the 0w-30 Yamalube for this oil change yet? Once I am past the break-in period, I will be running 5w-30 Mobil 1 or Valvoline full synthetic oil.

Change it now. No need for Yamalube at all, myself I wouldn't use it if it was given to me.
One of the best oils out there is Mobil1 ESP 0-30 with lots of esters in it, thats what I'd be using.

Are you saying that particular Mobil 1 is better than good 5w-30 synthetic (such as the Valvoline that I was going to run) or just that you like it because it is a 0w-30 vs a 5w-30?Change it now. No need for Yamalube at all, myself I wouldn't use it if it was given to me.

Yes, the M1 0-30 ESP is a better oil than the 5-30 M1 for a number of reasons. Has better ester base stocks, & one of the very best oils on the market in that viscosity range.

I
I was until I saw the specs on this M1 ESP 0w-30. They also reformulated the QSFS and it lost a step with the reformulation. People can use whatever they like, but the ESP has the ester base oil and things I like better myself. The used oil samples come back better with the M1 0w-30 ESP.

There both better platinum's just cheaperYou mean "Ultra" platinum. That's what I use in 5w30. Whatever....lol.
IMO...most important thing is to always use a premium synthetic oil on the 998s and change it regularly...0W30 or 5W30....cheep oil leads to big problem$
Recently most car manufactures have been dealing with major engine failure issues...common recommended oil 0W20...ultra high mileage recommended oil change intervals...duh...do you think!!!!!
Even my 6.7 HO Cummins has a stupid high mileage oil change interval and I still change the oil at 3000 to 5000 miles just like it it was back in the day.

I am going to change the oil before we go but I am just going to use the 5w-30 Valvoline Advanced full synthetic oil that I already have. It will be changed again at the end of the season (or at least sometime before next season) and will only have 700-1000 miles on that oil. I might change to the 0w-30 Mobil 1 ESP for the next oil change after this one.
