I was browsing around on the Yamaha site and found the following picture in the gallery of photos for the Rage. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy this type of key by itself? It looks like it must be a swtichblade type of deal... very cool!

Had this style key on my 06 Apex and love it! Then they stopped making them. I believe there was an issue with the key getting stuck on the cowl. I don't know how that is even possible. It is a shame they stopped making them. When I bought my 08 Apex I moved the assembly over so I could keep the key. Over 30,000 on the setup and I have never had it stick. I am certain you can not buy a new one. Although you may be able to find a used assembly on eBay with the key.

Snowgoer commented on the key in their review of the 2006 Attak years back. I guess people were bending and snapping them in the ignition so Yamaha decided to phase them out for the following year.

As custom as my sled is, I had a guy come up to me one time and say so that is a 06 apex GT uh. I was WTF how can you tell that with all custom body work, shocks, etc. He said the Key LOL

I do like this key.

So is it really a swtichblade action? If so, what do you push to make it flip out?

I have one I will sell you for $35 shipped. All you have to do is plug it in and you are good. Let me know, tdlong98@hotmail.com

just a bit of trivia
The reason Yamaha got rid of the key was because the tended to catch on the contours of the Vector dash panel and keep the starter engaged after start up. The engine made enough noise to hide the starter noise and quite a few burnt out the starter. I changed out a few because of that reason. No problems with the Apex dash, different contour. :yam:
