Where to start with poor performance

You really need to go out and ride it and document what RPM it is running or we're just grasping at straws. Currently we don't know if it's running at 7800 rpm or 8800 rpm, so any suggestions are purely guesses.

It is all red so that's good. I will do some test runs this weekend to see where the RPM is. And thanks again for all your help.

I was actually just checking that out. Thanks. I did notice prior to cleaning the spider didn't move real freely.

Srxspec mentioned 145hp. He must have taken into account your mods. Stock on the SRVipers is 130hp. I bought one when they first came out and have been disappointed with the performance ever since. I just bought a new sidewinder this year and wow! Give your wife the Viper as it's a good fit for that and get yourself a sidewinder, you won't be disappointed. Or add a turbo to the viper as mentioned which the 2014's & 2015's are the two years that are good for doing that on I believe.

Yeah I don't really have a sidewinder budget I got this cause it was 4500 bucks, low miles 66 year old owner and great shape and with the mods and elka suspension it's got nearly that in extras. This will get me through the best winter we've had up here in northern michigan in years, and maybe next year I'll find a suzuki 800 or maybe I'll grow to love this one after I forget how fast my F10 was. As long as I'm out riding.

Thanks, that is disappointing. I really don't care about top end but the acceleration is what is so disappointing on this thing, I had read a lot of older posts and saw the comments comparing to the Nytro but figured with the mods it would at least be equal. But apparently this thing is just a dog that may be looking for a new owner or becoming the wifes sled.
If you have poor acceleration call Thunder Products for clutching. Then its all about traction which requires good suspension setup. Stock Winder vs a Stock Viper well setup for the dig and up to about 80mph I will bet on the Viper everytime. Tuned Winder is a different story. Not much on snow will touch it anywhere.

I get you’re trying to help but he is in good hands with clutching. When he reports back on his findings rpm wise then suggestions should be made.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I have not had a chance to do any test runs with the ulmer weitghts. When i had taken it apart to clean I put the Yamaha weights back in. It seems to have more snap, but I also replaced the spark plugs and put on an SPI can to match the header. So I need to put the Ulmer's back in and do some test runs. With the current set up the rpm's are at 8870+/-20 at full throttle.

Ulmer weights are back in. Unfortunately it's 50° here in northern michigan today so may be a bit before I can get out and test.

I run Allens kit and I get 103 when the conditions are right but generally run in the mid 90's. I suggest pull you limiter strap all the way in. Short as possible and get the track angle straighter.

Thanks, I really do not care about a couple mph up top, I am looking for acceleration. Which is part of the problem, when I try searching for clutching advice it seems everyone is just concerned with top speed. Maybe my riding style is odd, I can't remember the last time I topped out a sled for more than a few seconds.

I also have a hurricane kit. it's not as fast on the top end but it's a little quicker corner to corner. It's the old saying give a little somewhere to gain in another area. Either both of these kits get the most out of the engine IMO. Both kits use STM weights with completely different set ups

Thanks. Do you know the weight (washer) distribution on the hurricane set up?
