Just picked up a Nytro with 800 miles and not sure what oil has been used in it. Does it matter whether I use synthetic or conventional? Thanks.

Mobil-1 0W-40 full synthetic European formula. Half the price of overrated Yamalube.

Doesn't matter if conventional or synthetic, but sled calls for a 0W30 or 0W40. You will only find "0" rated oils as synthetics. As Irv said, Mobil 0W40 is a very good choice and is especially inexpensive in the US.

i would go with synthetic just cause it wears better, but if the snowmobile leaks oil a little go with conventional oil cause that can fix it, and always get a good filter dont go cheap. alot of time people run the yamalube and that what i run in my nytro.

Just saying.
Here is a VOA (Virgin Oil Analysis) of Yamalube done in 2008

It does not look like anything that special to me. Zinc and Phos levels (which are the big anti wear materials) are not very high...Looks like a run of the mill oil at best

Do not under any circumstances use a cheeper automotive oil.
As long as you use a good quality snowmobile/quad/Bike oil of the proper viscosity you should be OK.

Uh, rotella non desil oil? Most rotella oil ims high detergent to keep the motor clean because of the low octane (ctane) rating and build up. And also a ton of lubricants to keep motor running after all the detergents go through it

Been running 0w40 yamalube. Even at my discounted price though its still 12.50-13.50/lt. Considering my options now. Lots of people run t6 5w40 in cars quads and even a few sleds I'm sure. I personally use it in my can am and my duramax. I'm very tempted to try it in my nytro as well but have enough yamalube on hand for two years yet so I haven't thought real hard about it yet.
