the Reverse light flashes but won't engage for some reason?? I have to shut the sled down so it will go back in drive mode!!!

Rock the sled side to side and back and forth
Yup Rock the sled
Both of our sleds have done that from new....we are use to doing it now. I just stand up and rock it side to side. If it still does not engage just pick up the back a little and drop it.

Same here. Hit the reverse button and then just give it a little rock back and forth.

What kind of a s'mobile are you talking about? Was told by my dealer that Yam has a different belt to try out that is supposed to fix the problem for my 08 VL. But by the time we get enough snow to get to the dealer (have to ride there no trailer and truck is too small - ahah) someone else will have probably already tried it. If so, please let us know if it worked?

there is an update for the reverse,plus it comes with a new belt,on the 07,not sure if they fixed the 08 and up,it works much better,i rock the sled about 90% less

Got the update on mine and it reduced the amount I have to rock the sled by quite a bit, but it still has to be done to some extent. Rarely it goes right in, (never did before the update) but that's still on a rare occasion.

thanks guys! seams like Yamaha could come up with a better fix though...

It's simply a gear meshing issue, (once the fix is done). All sleds with mechanical reverse have to mesh, and the way Yamaha does it, it's not always going to happen perfectly. Since there is not a spring loaded mechanism the gears have to mesh when you pull the handle, or push the button in the case of the Phazer, because a gear is a gear the teeth are not always perfectly aligned. The rocking simply moves the gear a touch and allows it to engage. I had a Polaris with the lever activated reverse that had a spring loaded mechanism, it sucked, and it ground the gears so much that they need to be replaced. It would pop out of reverse all the time. Bottom line is I prefer the Yamaha method as it may require a little hip movement here and there ar least it doesn't grind. Before someone says RER is perfect, it's not, I've seen RER sleds stall many times so the only sled that has a perfect reverse system is one that doesn't have reverse at all. The human lift and carry method.

yea you have to in front of all your buddies, shake your sled front to back while waitin to hear it click. and theyre comments lol thats quality right there imo.

Every brand has it's quirks. No way around it, if my only issue was having to rock my sled the two times a day I use reverse, I would be a happy camper. I'm sure you can find something on their sleds to shove back at them, there always is.
